Does anyone else get unwell with periods?

marmiters · 10/05/2019 22:47

I mean every period for me = diarrhoea, hot sweats, loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, severe cramps, headache, metal taste in mouth, anxiety, painful awful ache down below. I feel so unwell and it seems to be worse since I had a baby. This is every month and I'm not sure it's normal.

Anyone else get this?

Oh, the wind and diarrhoea

Oh gosh. Yes.

lightheadedness

Yes

The sore thighs / legs one is interesting

6079SmithW · 10/05/2019 23:57

@marmiters I would discuss with your GP and maybe ask for a Gynae referral. Lots of these symptoms can be symptoms of endometriosis/fibroids etc. You don't have to just put up with them 💐

Copperandtod · 11/05/2019 00:03

Mirrivan I do for sure and wonder if it will change when they have children. My symptoms got better but I see that has not been the same for others.

I thought it was normal until it changed

managedmis · 11/05/2019 00:05

I don't have super heavy periods but I often feel crampy and very irritable. Sometimes I need a hot water bottle.

They are not necessarily heavier since having kids but are definetly longer. I feel grubby too, and I hate the feeling of the blood pumping out of me, wakes me up etc.

I used to get really achy upper legs /inner thighs but don't get this anymore.

^^

Yours only last a couple of hours?!

managedmis · 11/05/2019 00:06

I do get diahorreah too. Ugh

FaithInfinity · 11/05/2019 00:06

Mirrivan DD is only 6 but I do worry about it. Apparently daughter’s are far more likely to have endo if their Mum does. I would be asking for more help for my DD. My Mum did take me to the GP for meds and I went on the pill at 17 (not sure that was really good long term but hey). I wasn’t diagnosed with endo until I was 35 though. 21 years of painful periods before I got diagnosed. It was even missed when we had fertility problems because they picked up an issue with DH early on Confused

originalusernamefail · 11/05/2019 00:10

Me too! I had HG in my pregnancies and now get migraines / nausea / retching / metal mouth in the days leading up to and including my period. I just about start feeling better in time for the next one. Hormones are ace Confused

WhiteDust · 11/05/2019 00:27

Yes. Pain equal to the worst labour contractions for 2/3 hrs on 1st or 2nd day. The rest of the time sweaty, nauseous and sore tummy. Some months (not all) I throw up too. Usually at night.
Dr says it's normal Hmm

RacerBakk · 11/05/2019 00:30

Yup, most months feel fatigued and a bit fluey, with anxiety/depression for a few days before. Then the pain.

All such joy.

willyougobacktobed · 11/05/2019 00:50

Me too!
I have endometriosis and I get all the listed symptoms including awful depression and cycling between constipation and diarrhea/ and the pain is hideous.

Purpleartichoke · 11/05/2019 04:28

Every single month.

Treaclepie19 · 11/05/2019 06:38

@AliceRR I get the vaginal ache/pain too. So much pressure there, it's horrible.

DameSquashalot · 11/05/2019 06:52

I suffer from most of these symptoms too. The wind is terrible. And the diarrhoea. I don't loose my appetite - I feel SO HUNGRY all the time.

I've got a fibroid and sometimes the pain from the cramps reduces me to tears - luckily that's not every month.

I can't remember anything at the best of times, but during my period it's so much worse.

I get very dizzy and clumsy. Incredibly irritable and highly emotional.

My poor DD Sad. Hopefully she won't suffer like this until she's much older.

I haven't noticed the gushing feeling since I started using my Mooncups.

DameSquashalot · 11/05/2019 06:54

I get the vaginal pain too, but the other symptoms are more severe.

QueenofStella · 11/05/2019 07:10

Glad it’s not just me then! I take Femodene which for me means light periods but every 28 days on the dot I get out bed and cannot stand up straight. Feel like I’m on fire from ribs to thighs. Upset stomach, headache and a strange taste in my mouth. Sugar cravings like mad.

Only another 20 years until menopause..... Hmm

Ihatehashtags · 11/05/2019 07:28

@copper&tod if you haven’t already take her to a gynaecologist. She probably has endometriosis and needs to be aware of the impact on fertility and sex. The pill continuously might be a good option, but I’d talk to a specialist sooner rather than later. There is no need for her to be getting periods at all and continuing to suffer.

PutyourtoponTrevor · 11/05/2019 07:47

Totally get the shits and let's not forget the javelin arse

Copperandtod · 11/05/2019 08:28

I hate hashtags she has been to GP loads and is now on her third type of pill. However has never been referred to gynae. Good idea

Comtesse · 11/05/2019 08:52

Endometriosis is massively under diagnosed and actually quite common - 1 in 7 women is a statistic I have seen. If your periods are dreadful there is a distinct possibility you have endometriosis. I thought I had IBS swinging between constipation and the runs. But no, I had massive cysts and my ovary was stuck to my bowel wall with adhesions. 2 surgeries and loads of medication required. Keep going back to the gp if necessary - typical length of time for diagnosis is 7 years so don’t be shy to make a fuss.

Post children I now have Mirena and it is wonderful. I wish I had it years ago. Some people hate it, but can be amazing for endometriosis sufferers.

Coldilox · 11/05/2019 08:56

I was horribly ill every month. I got the mirena coil and it stopped my periods. Best thing I ever did.

Shouldhavenotdonethat · 11/05/2019 08:59

I'm so glad I've seen this... I was on the pill for years as a teen and in my 20s and never had any issues
Now early 30s and had 2 kids within 2 years.
Since then my periods are awful. Period pain is very minimal but i bleed so heavily every month, was feeling practically suicidal the day before I came on (I've never been depressed in my life), I get awful headaches and feel fluey, I can barely sleep as I am so hot and I have horrific dreams (2 this week were being in the airport with the dc and a bomb going off and dh and dc being in a car crash- I rarely dream unless on my period).

I get an upset tummy also

I have been to the docs and am now back on the pill but the only symptom that has gone since I went on it 4m ago is the suicidal thoughts.

Is this now life till menopause!?

BiBiBirdie · 11/05/2019 09:01

@MirriVan yes! I'm petrified I've passed it to DD. She's 12 and for a first period her's has been awful, she's dizzy and pale, her tummy has just been hurting for four days straight (started Tuesday), and she's incredibly heavy to the point she's leaked. She managed school Tuesday and Wednesday but by Thursday was in tears.
There is PCOS on her Dad's side as well though. I've asked for a GP appointment but wasn't allowed an emergency one as they're militant at our surgery and it's not on their list of things they give out emergency appointments for, so we have a two week wait.
That's half the issue though- I had been back and forth for years, to male and female GPs and was variously told to get on with it and all women hate periods. It was only when an out of hours doctor thought I had appendicitis and I was scanned they realised I had PCOS on both sides that left me doubled over in pain.

RumpledOfTheBailey · 11/05/2019 09:10

I get loads of the above, but worst for me is doom laden anxious feeling beforehand and also feeling sooo cold for a couple of days: that’s how I know it’s imminent..

SaveKevin · 11/05/2019 10:15

Yes javelin arse. How did I forget that gem??!
I get that about a week before I’m due on.

We used to have the tampax lady do period talks at school. She never mentioned this shit.

Tingface · 11/05/2019 10:36

Please tell me I’m not alone with the sore throat? It’s really bad. Like tonsillitis for 3 days every other cycle.
