I know I’m bvu by posting a non aibu thread in aibu, but forgive me please.

Been referred to a domestic violence charity through mental health team, I have a 10 month old dd, will they contact ss? Very worried that dd will be taken from me.

Having worked for a DV charity we only refered to social services if we were worried about the safety of the child or mother, it wasnt done as a matter of course.

I went to women’s aid for help a few year ago and my case was heard at Marac. My original phone call to them and subsequent visit definitely wasn’t reported to social care (they promised they didn’t do this). However after we were heard at Marac and they decided what mine and my children’s safest options were, if I hadn’t taken those steps to keep us safe then I think it might have triggered a social care call. Certainly if I had left refuge and gone back to the children’s father the refuge staff would have had to tell social care as a safe guarding issue.

Please don’t be afraid though OP. Let these people help you and try not to be afraid of social services. I was terrified of them to the point when they did get involved I practically had a panic attack. But it was ok, they actually did help in the end.
