Dh and I were discussing a slightly older version of a TV show he likes, it's always on repeat and he was asking why I didn't like it. I said "it's just sexist arseholes spouting rubbish under the pretence of talking about (certain subject)"

He said "they're not arseholes" and I gave him a knowing look to which he responded "just because they're sexist doesn't mean they're arseholes"

To which I said "in my mind anyone who is sexist is an arsehole, there's no acceptable excuse"

He disagrees, although dh isn't sexist and doesn't agree with the views of the people we were discussing

If you're a racist, you're an arsehole. Same logic applies to sexist.
If you think women don't deserve to be equal to men, you are most definitely an arsehole.

I think his line of thinking was

They talk about "certain subject", a lot of what they say make sense, yes they sometimes say/mean sexist things but that doesn't make them an arsehole overall

I think dh is misguided and actually they are arseholes plain and simple. Just because they aren't always spouting sexist shit doesn't mean they are good guys

As I said my husband is not sexist and definitely doesn't agree with people who make sexist remarks but he couldn't see why I couldn't like said people for their other views

I'm not sure if I'm way off-track, but this sounds like The Big Bang Theory - a hideous show that comes across like the wildly sexist characters are not arseholes because they're nerds who like comics and science and blah blah blah.

They're arseholes. I can't think of a circumstance where a sexist wouldn't be an arsehole.

I find that alot of men who aren't sexist (or don't come across sexist) feel that way, they think it's not a big deal making sexist comments and shouldn't let it bother us so much.........easy to say when you're never the target

It is Top Gear. Dh just thinks I'm harsh for calling JC that. He thinks I shouldn't just peg him as an arsehole and not listen to what he has to say on other topics. Whereas I'm not remotely interested in what he has to say on anything as I've heard him ve sexist previously
