To ask who the hell would pay for this?

An instagrammer has set up an online course where she shares lifestyle and parenting tips for the mere price of 175usd/250aud (so about £135). Honestly I think the world has lost the plot. Is this something anyone on here would pay for?

I am hoping that Instagram is going to have its day soonEnvy

Umm, if people are on this site, then I think they may well have initially wanted to check out the parenting tips? At least, that's why I signed up. I think mumsnetters are far too sensible to fall for such nonsense. With you duchess, down with Instagram!

DaisiesAreOurSilver · 09/05/2019 18:25

There is no occupation more pointless than that of instagram influencer.

Sad, sad, sad.

IAmTheChosenOne · 09/05/2019 18:33

It's just a different form of marketing. The world progresses.

dduchessddelight · 09/05/2019 18:37

I just think it’s preying on potentially vulnerable women to invest in something preposterous.

A 5 week online course from an instagrammer who hasn’t raised children beyond the age of 13.

Also fails to mention that she’s from a billionaire American family. It bewilders me.

It's been in the news this, people are kicking off because it isn't actually a course. It's just a few newsletters and videos and she has no accreditation to deliver anything

Personally I don't see why people get so invested in random folks lives and put them on pedestals

SheeshKebab · 09/05/2019 18:40

I wouldn't ever pay for it but I also wouldn't judge someone for selling it or buying it. Each to their own. People are allowed to make money off whatever they want as long as it's legal. I really don't see the issue.

dduchessddelight · 09/05/2019 18:58

@Prequelle

I haven’t seen it in the news...would be curious to hear the views of others.

She is a privileged idiot.

Can I answer this from the influencer’s side without getting shot down? I don’t know who you are referring to btw.

I’m an ~influencer~. I sell courses.

Here’s the thing. I spend a lot of time creating content for my audience, and this is my business. I need to make money from it.

I also get a lot of questions per day. About 10 emails and 100 Instagram messages. It takes me hours a day to answer them and to help my followers.

The questions I get asked the most often help me to create new content, and some of that content I charge for in the form of courses. You couldn’t go get advice from a solicitor without paying, so if you squint a little it’s similar.

You won’t sell courses without giving great content and advice out for free and as an expert you deserve to get paid for what you do.

Super loyal fans will pay and that’s fine if they do. And fine if they don’t.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 09/05/2019 19:09

If you class yourself as an expert, I would expect you to have the relevant qualifications.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/05/2019 19:09

Is this like when Homer and Marge were ordered to go to parenting classes following a 'misunderstanding' and were given such gems as 'don't just throw your garbage out of the window - simply put it in the trash can!' ?

Marge (sighing deeply): "This is soooo humiliating."
Homer (carefully writing down every word): "Shh, Marge - this is GOLD!!" Grin

PrincessCessy · 09/05/2019 19:16

ThomasHardy without outing I am, what I would call, an expert. Not saying the person in question is.

flugelhorn81 · 09/05/2019 19:26

OP I nearly started this same thread this morning after watching the promo videos on Instagram! I totally agree, why are people paying for this? And also she claims people are paying for their partners to do it "as a Mother's Day surprise"! One of the "modules" is on travel - what on earth is she planning to "teach" people?!

cardibach · 09/05/2019 19:32

I presume you just mean the influencer thing, because Instagram is a great platform for ordinary people to share their photos with their ordinary friends.

Gertie75 · 09/05/2019 19:51

It's not something I'd buy but I have no problem with people making money this way if they're honest with what they're selling.

Lots of celebrities do it but in a different way, they are a brand and behave/look a certain way to get people to buy into them, Holly Willoughby is an example, she keeps herself immaculate and behaves in a likeable way therefore people will buy her books on motherhood and the clothes she sells etc.

The money must be great but you're 'working' 365 days a year to keep yoi appearances because there are always people desperate for the mask to slip.

dduchessddelight · 09/05/2019 19:51

@cardibach yeah the influencer thing just turns me right off. I honestly don’t get it.

@PrincessCessy do you have qualifications in the subject you’re an expert in?

I saw this and was gobsmacked. They are just going to be making mega money from die hard fans for literally nothing? It's disgusting

breakfastpizza · 10/05/2019 12:46

I liked her when she kept her business venture on a separate feed and her personal feed was more about her (admittedly ridiculously perfect) family life. But she seems to have distanced herself from her original business since she moved to Oz and has aggressively started using her children to sell/promote stuff.

She bangs on and on about living a simple life, then gets endless boxes of free tat from sponsors. There's also the conflict that she doesn't allow her kids access to electronics but is herself on them ALL THE TIME, and uses their images without their consent.

As OP mentioned, she is stonking rich (which she never talks about) so it's hard to understand where she is coming from with this course.
