Primark - anything good?

Posting for traffic.

Going on holiday on Monday, first one in over 3 years and haven't had a chance to do any holiday/clothes shopping for various reasons.

Tonight lovely DP has told me he will try and get home as early as possible and put DCs to bed and I can go shopping (centre open until 9pm) and get myself some bits. I don't have a huge budget about £100 and also need some new jeans so I have decided to go straight to Primark, it's huge/cheap and has lots of stuff and maybe H&M if I have time/money left over.

I am a little anxious as I haven't bought clothes for myself in a while and don't feel super confident in my current size and thanks to wrinkly saggy mum belly. Also completely out of touch with current fashion.

I'd love to get some things I can also use in the summer after we come back.

Is there anything to look out for? What's in and good?
I come up anywhere between sizes 10-14 depending where I shop.

They've got some lovely jeans at the minute - some just plain blue/black but others in some lovely colours and patterns. I bought a pair of black and white checked ones from there the other week. DP calls them my golf trousers but I think they're great.

I love Primark jeans, I have some black skinny fit ones and they are so comfortable and stretchy (but still fitting) and only about £7.

I would maybe gets some fitted jeans and then a nice over sized jumper for everyday wear.

For the holiday - high waisted bikinis are super flattering, and you can get some nice kaftans to cover up.
Some maxi skirts or maxi dresses for the evening which can then be reused for occasions at home.

jarhead123 · 09/05/2019 11:25

You'll find loads I'm sure. Enjoy!

Floralnomad · 09/05/2019 11:31

I love Primark jeans , they wear and wash well for the price and are my go to for daily dog walking however I can rarely find any T-shirt’s or tops that I would buy in there and find that the shorts are definitely for younger people than me ( very short ) , but that may be what you are after . The men’s t shirt range is much better but no use for you .

Justheretosee · 09/05/2019 11:35

They have loads of midi and maxi skirts at the minute and also nice cargo trousers

cookiechomper · 09/05/2019 11:36

The jeans are ok but the sizes aren't right, I've always had to get 2 sizes bigger.

Tighnabruaich · 09/05/2019 11:47

I popped in to a Primark at the weekend and go a really nice stretchy, empire line midi for hols, but decided to wear it to work today. I'm getting tons of compliments. The frock cost me £10! There was a lot of reasonable stuff in - a lot of vile nylon-ey things too, but have a good rummage and you'll get something. You'll find it hard to spend £100!

Snowfalling · 09/05/2019 11:49

I was there today and saw loads of relaxed joggers/drawstring trousers in soft fabrics and beautiful prints that would be perfect for holidays and also wearing back home. £7. I'm planning to go back and buy few.

There's a lovely blue and white striped sundress at the moment

GreenEggsHamandChips · 09/05/2019 11:51

Gorgeous halterneck swimming costume in blue, black or khaki.

birthdaymayhem · 09/05/2019 11:55

Oh thank you I do have 2 swimsuits but not sure about one of them so might have a look!

@Tighnabruaich what's the dress if you don't mind me asking? It sounds lovely.

I'm also thinking of some tassely /statement eearings for one of the nights, is that still in?

They had some nice shirt type dresses when I was in the other day. Also bikinis if you need one and I bought a packable straw fedora.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 09/05/2019 11:59

Their ultra soft skinny jean is the only one I've tried that actually looks good and fits well (I have a small waist and bigger hips/bum, finding jeans that don't leave that massive gap is a nightmare!)

sadkoala · 09/05/2019 13:14

I'll have to have a good look around and I'm guessing take different sizes in to try and stuff? I've been told sizing isn't great.

bordellosboheme · 09/05/2019 13:17

Their jeggins are brilliant. I also love my Mary poppins sweatshirt ❤️😍

Michaelbaubles · 09/05/2019 13:19

They do relaxed fit scoop neck t-shirts in tonnes of colours for about £3. I have loads and they’re so useful. Great for holiday - they dry quickly too if you need to wash them when you’re away.

MinesaPinot · 09/05/2019 13:25

I got some lovely white/blue striped culottes in there the other day for a tenner - DH calls them my deckchair trousers LOL! They've got loads of t-shirts, vest tops, shorts etc. and some lovely sparkly sandals.

effiehabb · 09/05/2019 13:30

I second the scoop neck t-shirts, I've been living in them since discovering them. I even wear them tucked in smart trousers and under a suit jacket, they're fab.

Whiskyagogo · 09/05/2019 13:31

I like Primark jeans, I buy them a bit snug as they stretch after a few wears! The sizing can also be out so do try them on.

formerbabe · 09/05/2019 13:34

Just come back from there and think I saw the dress you are talking about. Does it tie up at the waist? I might go back and get it

Pimmsypimms · 09/05/2019 13:48

You'll get loads of holiday bargains from primark, just make sure you try them on through before you buy them, I find their sizing is very hit and miss!

Tighnabruaich · 09/05/2019 15:05

birthdaymayhem it's got a round neck with short sleeves and a drawstring waistline (at empire line height) it's black with thin white horizontal stripes. I'm a short arse so it comes down below my calves.

Tighnabruaich · 09/05/2019 15:07

birthdaymayhem here it is
www.primark.com/en/product/black-stripe-maxi-dress,N35397181564625

Tighnabruaich · 09/05/2019 15:07

I'm wearing it with bare legs and chunky white Diesel trainers.

birthdaymayhem · 09/05/2019 16:52

Ok thanks I'll keep an eye out for it @Tighnabruaich

So far on my list I'll be looking out for
Midi dress
Maxi dress
Swimsuit tunic
Earrings/etc
Sandals/flip flops
Lightweight knee length cardigan
Any nice and comfy shirts/tops
Pair of shorts
Skirt/s

I'm not expecting to be able to buy it all within the budget but I want to have a good browse and pick what suits me.

(My cankles and floppy arms don't help when choosing summer wear)
