Hot cross bun debate

I have just eaten, and enjoyed, a toasted, buttered hot cross bun dated best before April 4th. So far am still alive and well. So much for 'use by warnings'. Did have to trim off a few greenish bits, though. Is this some sort of record?

Well, it was best before, and not use by...

Don't think I'd have kept them that long (mind you, hot X buns don't last 5 mins in this house), but each to their own.

I've got some mince pies at home that I've been thinking about eating. I threw away the packaging to store them in an air-tight box (as per instructions). I think they were best before January. They won't kill me, just might be a bit stale-tasting.

Oh gosh no - they would be stale, hard, and the greenery... yuk! Envy (not envy)

I'm all for being flexible with dates, but too hard when it should be soft, or too soft when it should be hard, Green bits or a smell that makes you retch and in the bin it goes!

The mince pies would be ok warm with a bit of custard!

Nice one OP i also trim off the mould. I had a colleague once throw away a bag of oranges a day out of date.
