He's a prick. Glad he has been fired, no other option.

Imagine being parents of an innocent baby being trolled like that.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 09/05/2019 10:42

He’s always been a cunt and a talentless one at that. He’s a shock jock. A twat for hire. I remember him ranting on a phone in years ago at some poor guy who had the audacity to say he didn’t like Stock Aiken and Waterman.

onalongsabbatical · 09/05/2019 10:43

Very glad to see he's been fired. Excellent news. Unacceptable behaviour from him.

brassbrass · 09/05/2019 10:43

I can't find anything about him being fired. I think you might be referencing an old news story about a previous sacking.

marmiters · 09/05/2019 10:43

The support for him on twitter under his posts is sad. Lots of supremacist types talking about how sensitive people are. This is why I avoid twitter. I feel angry now. This whole thing has made me feel sad. As a black woman who just had a mixed race boy, who is 6 months old and beautiful. If someone posted a photo like this after my son was born I would be devastated. Just because they are in the public eye, doesn't mean this isn't hurtful. Poor Megan.

I'm glad he's been sacked.

onalongsabbatical · 09/05/2019 10:44

Sky news just reported that he himself has just said he's been sacked.

Piffle11 · 09/05/2019 10:45

Agree The80s - I was just thinking the other day how things seem to be going backwards in football … the racist behaviour towards certain players is disgusting, and appears to be getting worse. This kind of behaviour needs to be immediately acted upon. I used to like Danny Baker, and I think he knew exactly what he was doing. He clearly doesn't give a shit. Nasty, horrible, racist twat.

IAmTheChosenOne · 09/05/2019 10:46

Poor parents. Can you imagine having a beautiful new baby and having this kind of ignorant shit blow up? Beggars belief. They do not live in that much of a bubble.

I was shown some American trash articles, which were openly discussing what colour the baby would be. Plus asking why it was hidden and what was wrong with it, was it too black or disabled in some way.

I presume Meghan has seen this sort of filth before, American isnt exactly known for it harmonious racial attitudes

The firing news

Langrish · 09/05/2019 10:46

Good. Was never (should never had been) in any doubt. No room for such shite in any organisation.

The80sweregreat · 09/05/2019 10:49

The footballer i am thinking about had racist chants on the field in another country just recently. other countries also need to wise up how unacceptable it is, which goes to show that football still has a long way to go to stamping it out completely. I doubt that it will ever go away for good, which is very depressing.

dayswithaY · 09/05/2019 10:49

I have listened to Danny for years and always been a big fan of his wit and intelligence. But I always suspected there was a bit of a jolly Uncle at a family party type of act going on and he wasn't really like that at all. I saw glimpses of this when he was on I 'm a Celeb when he clearly thought he was the most famous person there. He was quite unkind to Martin Someone from Homes under the Hammer, clearly trying to get the others to join him. Seemed a bit nasty under the humour which must have been a reason why he was first to leave, that really bruised his ego too I imagine.

Even though I love his show he is quite keen to remind guests about his amazing career when he interviews them. Humble he is not. Never ever thought of him as being racist but even if this tweet was innocent the intent behind it was to upset and insult two people (and a baby). His so called apology was a joke. He later tweeted about how he has survived head cancer in a desperate attempt to garner sympathy. You could just apologise. I think Mr Arrogant has had his day, and that's me speaking as a long time fan. He has a national tour starting soon - wonder if he'll cancel?

BishopofBathandWells · 09/05/2019 10:50

I find the Meghan hate baffling if I'm honest. She's a gorgeous, self-made millionaire who's just had a baby with the man she loves. The deluge of absolute shit I see online directed at her, based on literally no evidence at all beyond tabloid bollocks, is just unbelievable. We don't like women getting out of their box, and when it's a woman of colour woweee.

If Danny Baker is so switched on he doesn't see colour and was just making a comment about the Royals, nevertheless he's not stupid - he should've known how that picture would look to others. The "my turn in the barrel" comment just means he thinks the backlash he's copping is unfair.

Can't we just leave the poor woman alone? And her poor baby, who is entirely innocent of anything other than being born, by a quirk of fate, into privilege?

BubblesBuddy · 09/05/2019 10:50

I listen to him and he’s very bright and has a memory like an elephant. It’s so stupid that he had to tweet anything! However my Saturday mornings won’t be the same now. I have no doubt he will get other work when the fuss dies down. People always do and he’s sailed close to the wind before!

PlumCakeChica · 09/05/2019 10:50

Well that was a quick decision by the bbc. Good riddance to a horrible man.

Langrish · 09/05/2019 10:51

Very stupid header on the bbc reporting of his firing:
“How can celebrities walk the social media tightrope?”
Good grief. Haven’t read it (swipes it in annoyance Grin). Tightrope? suggests to me a certain sympathy towards him, oh poor celebrity man, stumbling along an impossible path, in constant danger of being tripped up.
A tip, Mr. Baker. Don’t be a dick and you’ll be just fine.

Piffle11 · 09/05/2019 10:51

Have you seen that he says it didn't occur to him that it was racist as his mind isn't 'diseased'? As soon as I saw the picture I thought 'wtf???', and yet this intelligent broadcaster - who surely is acutely aware of the pitfalls of social media when you're in the public eye - apparently didn't for one second think it could be interpreted as racist. FFS he's not a naïve kid starting out. So he's blaming our 'diseased minds' for him losing his job. Prick.

brassbrass · 09/05/2019 10:51

Good. Thanks for the links. Can't think why the BBC are dragging their feet in confirming it. Twats.

I remember this feeling. My MIL liked to speculate about what colour my baby would be when pregnant with my first. It's so fucking degrading and othering.

dayswithaY · 09/05/2019 10:51

My first thought was I really hope Meghan and Harry don't see the vile tweet - I guess they will now.

Ces6 · 09/05/2019 10:54

I don't think he did it on purpose - why would he?? I hate this mob mentality.

BubblesBuddy · 09/05/2019 10:55

I think the only legitimate debate is how much Royals spend and how much work they do and what benefit that brings. That’s legitimate as some of it comes from the public purse and should be open to scrutiny. There has to be some accountability but abuse is not acceptable.

Afrikan · 09/05/2019 10:56

"I don't think about a person's racial heritage often. To me, people are people"

Typical white person speak. Of course you don't think race, you've been conditioned to think that your race is superior and your loved experiences aren't at all negatively influenced by race.

The80sweregreat · 09/05/2019 10:56

sometimes it is the ' jolly uncle having a larf' sorts that really are the worst in my experience.
Still, his career is now tarnished.

areyoubeingserviced · 09/05/2019 10:56

Ces6- with respect your post is very disingenuous
