When being interviewed after his eviction from IACGMOOH he was questioned about his bullying of another ‘celebrity’, that resulted in the individual being reduced to tears, he stated that crying about it (the bullying) was ‘passive, aggressive nonsense’. Delightful man.

ilovesooty · 09/05/2019 23:29

I hope this finishes his career - behaviour like this is utterly unacceptable.

I feel sorry for Meghan too. I'm no royalist but she comes in for a lot of abuse in the media and on this site. She's a human being and her first days of motherhood shouldn't he blighted like this.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 09/05/2019 23:31

Did he really? Are you sure?
Yes. It was in his football pundit show in the nineties. I used to be a fan of his, largely because of his connection with Chris Evans and the stuff they did together like TFI. It was round about then I started to realise he was not a particularly pleasant individual. He’s done nothing since to change my mind.

LizzieSiddal · 09/05/2019 23:40

Then frankly you're thick as mud. Anyone with half a brain knows that black people/mixed race people have been compared to monkeys from out and out racists.

And don’t forget that he’s a huge Millwall fan so will have seen bananas being thrown at black players and heard monkey chants when black players have the ball.
So if he doesn’t “get” that picture is racist, he doesn’t deserve to be in employment, never mind on a national radio programme, as he must be as thick as shit.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 09/05/2019 23:45

*Did he really? Are you sure?
.....,further, you can probably find it if you google, it was not long after he’d been sacked before for his abuse, and encouragement of his ‘fans’ to abuse, a referee he’d taken objection to.

I agree - I absolutely don't agree the majority of Millwall fans are racist - they absolutely know what throwing a banana on the pitch insinuates, they absolutely know that posting a pic of a chimpanzee claiming it's the 'royal baby' is racist.

Absolutely no excuse for it and anyone who tries to? YOU'RE RACIST.

I really like DB as a broadcaster and believe he has been stupid rather than racist. However he should have known better, he is an accomplished broadcaster and an intelligent man. I am a parent of a mixed raced child who genetically has 'the blond genes'. So strangers feel they can comment about adoption, the milk man etc and DD feels really strongly that she needs to get her tan (since DH died) so people get her heritage. I am conflicted on this to be honest because lots of people, even though they do not realise it, are quite racist when trying to be well meaning. It is such a complex issue. The UK has loads of immagrants past and present and lots of families identify with where their family are from but very much are part of the UK. I think it is right DB was sacked mainly because he should have known better and represents the BBC. But racism is far bigger than the black and white argument. Late DH was very senior in his field and sat in meetings where racist jokes were made- with the disclaimer obviously not him. The more senior managers were not White British either.

BertrandRussell
“he expressed a wish, on his radio show, that the whole board of a football club he didn’t like had terminal cancer“
Did he really? Are you sure?

Well, it was easily googled. Not quite as stated but close enough (though I expect you and his other apologists will quibble that it wasn’t terminal cancer and not on a football club) yes, this very unpleasant man wished cancer on Millwall football club’s local council members over a land dispute. Charming he’s not.

Totally agree ilovesooty, regardless of where people stand on the monarchy, how fucking shitty does a person have to be to stick the boot into a post partum mother?

HeronLanyon · 09/05/2019 23:57

I did google it - 6 jan 2017 evening standard story. He wished cancer on lewisham council staff to do with possible millwall land sale.

GirlRaisedInTheSouth · 09/05/2019 23:58

I am desperately trying to think of another reason he would have posted this as I cannot believe an intelligent, socially-aware JOURNALIST would do such a thing.

The fact that the baby is a monkey is crucial to the ‘joke’, therefore I fail to see any other interpretation.

I hope Millwall FC ditch him as well. To their credit, they have done so much to combat racism over the past few years.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 09/05/2019 23:59

Not quite as stated but close enough (though I expect you and his other apologists will quibble that it wasn’t terminal cancer and not on a football club)
You are correct speck, and in the interests of truth I withdraw and apologise, he wished ‘terminal illness’ on them.

BertrandRussell · 10/05/2019 00:00

“I expect you and his other apologists”

I’m not an apologist. Just not happy about a pile on including an account of something he said 20 years ago.

Stupid? Seriously? He posted a photo with the caption of a chimpanzee being the baby - have a word with yourself. There is NO excuse for it - he wasn't bloody stupid he was bloody racist!

speck
Ah, wait, I see what’s happened here, sorry I do want to get this right.
So, in 1997 he wished ‘terminal illness’ on the board of a football club he had a gripe with.
And in 2017 he wished cancer on Lewisham Council.
Phew, glad that’s cleared up. Wouldn’t want to unfairly smear him.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 10/05/2019 00:08

on account of something he said 20 years ago
What about the thing he said two years ago?

SkiingIsHeaven · 10/05/2019 00:19

What an idiot.

There is no way he didn't know about the royal baby.

I have always thought that he was not funny.

Erythronium · 10/05/2019 00:29

Chris Evans' mate. Nuff said.

SpeckofStardust · 10/05/2019 00:31

Judashascomeintosomemoney Yes, yes, I think that clears up any misunderstanding nicely.

My google search failed to turn up the 1997 incident just the 2017 one. It did turn up that he has survived cancer himself which makes it even more despicable that he’d wish it on someone else. Also his various sackings by the BBC, one of them for telling Millwall fans to make some poor referee’s life hell.

Honestly don’t get how people are still giving him any benefit of doubt here. If it tweets like a fucking racist, it’s a fucking racist.

MuffingtonClay · 10/05/2019 00:35

Please can someone explain how a segment on a radio show called “Chimps dressed as famous people” works and why it is funny? I can’t get my head round that idea at all.

HeronLanyon · 10/05/2019 01:02

muffingtonclay it’s hard to describe! His shows (even the football shows to
Some extent) always have had surreal segments which you either got or didn’t. He certainly isn’t everyone’s cup of tea !
Been some time since I heard this but it was sometimes very funny. He’d found and was discussing the awfulness of victorians dressing chimps as famous people. I remember he displayed a lot of really proper outrage over this and eg of pg tips use of chimps. It developed into a running gag where he would create the image with fairground music playing. He described actions. Seem to remember the person was usually someone who had been subject of other parts of the show so it was relevant and followed earlier things.
It was never negative, always surreal and often very funny
Very hard to describe !

MuffingtonClay · 10/05/2019 01:07

Thanks for trying Heron.
I can see that perhaps he was referring to this with the tweet but he was a fool not to think through the racist implications and the BBC was right to fire him.

HeronLanyon · 10/05/2019 01:09

Agree fully.

IAmNotAWitch · 10/05/2019 01:37

He couldn't have been clearer if he had painted "I am a racist dickhead" on his face.

Typical "Oh, I didn't mean it like that" bullshit that these fuckwits always come out with.

What a prick.

RubberTreePlant · 10/05/2019 01:59

He couldn't have been clearer if he had painted "I am a racist dickhead" on his face.

I think that's what's causing the incredulity.
