Fans of the football team he supports are also well known for calling non-white players monkeys.

jellyfish70 · 09/05/2019 18:20

He's trying to claim that the royals are not on his radar.....so why was he tweeting about them?? He's always been an arrogant motor mouth so it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.

Mrsjayy · 09/05/2019 18:31

He needs to stop talking now !

justarandomtricycle · 09/05/2019 18:35

I'd like to follow the "diversion". What did you mean by "so-called race"? How is it nonsense, biologically speaking? Are you trying to say that mixed race isn't a race? So she's nothing?

This is very, VERY obviously not what I said in my comment, or anything like what I said in my comment.

Even pretending to infer that from my comment is transparently malicious, I won't get into discussion that is not in good faith.

neveradullmoment99 · 09/05/2019 18:36

Who cares.
Hate the BBC.
Hate the Royals.

FoxSquadKitten · 09/05/2019 18:42

neveradullmoment, you don't care? So you are happy for a kid to treated like this because you hate the Royals? Ok then 🙄

NotMyPuppy · 09/05/2019 18:46

I’m pretty upset about this - a mixed race baby born into the Royal Family which I think is a really positive thing, and someone high profile makes a joke comparing him to a monkey.

Maybe it wasn’t malicious, who knows, but it’s such a colossal error of judgment that the BBC has to get rid.

cathay123 · 09/05/2019 18:47

I can't stand the way this cunt is making excuses for his vile behaviour. I hope he never works again.

BlackForestCake · 09/05/2019 18:47

Sacked for a dodgy tweet? Is this the society we want to live in?

The Daily Mail isn't in a position to call anyone out for racism.

I see the BBC is having Nigel Farage on Question Time again tonight.

Hearhere · 09/05/2019 18:47

he's speaking to his 'base' then

JacquesHammer · 09/05/2019 18:49

Who cares
Hate the BBC
Hate the Royals

So racism is acceptable if you dislike the target?

Sacked for a dodgy tweet? Is this the society we want to live in?

I wouldn’t really class racism as “dodgy”. He wasn’t sacked for a “dodgy tweet”, he was sacked for tweeting racist material.

Do I want to live in a society where racists are held to account? Yes please.

femfemlicious · 09/05/2019 18:50

I actually think he should be prosecuted for this!. Surely this is a hate crime! Shockingly openly racist...he is saying the baby is a chimpanzee because his mum is black.

If a similar meme had been made towards a trans person, he would be in jail!. Disgusting!

HeronLanyon · 09/05/2019 18:53

He has a segment on his show called ‘over dressed chimps dressed as famous people’ or similar. I can only think he was alluding to this. Don’t understand why he hasn’t said that. For me it explains but does not excuse it all. Stupid but I do think at heart that’s what he was actually doing , surely. I’ve listened to his shows over the years on lbc and bbc etc and am shocked to think he is racist either consciously or unconsciously. Never seen or felt the slightest hint of racism from him.

ForalltheSaints · 09/05/2019 18:53

I agree he should lose his job and the BBC to their credit have acted. I do think though that he should have been called to a meeting at their offices and sacked. People should be dismissed face to face for gross misconduct, so there is no chance of them claiming to be some kind of martyr or have any chance of claiming compensation for due process not being followed.

Danglingmod · 09/05/2019 18:54

Finding it pretty hilarious that being left-wing or a Labour party supporter must mean you can't possibly be racist.

NotMyPuppy · 09/05/2019 18:56

heronlanyon he mentioned his chimp segment in an interview with James O’Brien. I’m sure it was part of that but I just don’t see how he didn’t realise the connotation

Afrikan · 09/05/2019 18:58

"The problem Danny Baker has is that he's not racist enough to see that image and make a connection to race"

You even have measure of how tiny bit you can be racist??😂😂 Must be nice

femfemlicious · 09/05/2019 18:59

This really hits a nerve for...i have had racists shout abuse at me calling me a monkey!.

elfycat · 09/05/2019 19:00

The one good thing to come of this is it's a perfect example of 'what not to do' with social media for kids/teenagers. They need to learn that anything you put out there with your name on it can come back to bite you.

What an idiot.

VladmirsPoutine · 09/05/2019 19:00

The worst thing about this debacle isn't so much the inherent racism within Danny Baker but those doing mental gymnastics to justify it.

HeronLanyon · 09/05/2019 19:01

notmypuppy good he’s explained. Agree so stupid not to think further.

RedDogsBeg · 09/05/2019 19:02

It wasn't a dodgy tweet, it was racist.

The Daily Mail isn't in a position to call anyone out for racism.

What's the Daily Mail got to do with it? They didn't sack him. The DM and other news outlets reported on his tweet and the twitter reaction to it.

I see the BBC is having Nigel Farage on Question Time again tonight.

Nigel Farage is not employed by the BBC.

Zampa · 09/05/2019 19:03

What absolute bollocks. Have any evidence for this?

SleepingStandingUp · 09/05/2019 19:05

Give it a generation or two and that tweet would go by without any offence taken

HeronLanyon · 09/05/2019 19:06

Millwall are known for having racist chants and hooliganism. A lot in the past and not everyone. Db always called it out and spoke openly about the embarrassment of that reputation.
