To think Radio 5 host Danny Baker cannot stay at the BBC?

Nonsense mrsbethel he is exactly the generation who would know what monkey chants are and why they are racist. He is also a broadcaster of some experience. It's his job to know!

On an historical point, I am absolutely sure that when the image was taken there was no racism involved at all. There was a fashion for dressed up animals and exotic pets- you could buy them at Harrod’s when I was a little girl.

As I pointed out elsewhere in the thread it's so disingenuous all this only racists make the connection - it's because racists have chanted, thrown bananas, etc etc that we are aware of the offensive thought processes of racists and therefore avoid images like this when commenting in the birth of a mixed race baby.

I'm no fan of DB, he comes off as a chippy bully BUT if I wasn't on MN I genuinely wouldn't have known that MM is mixed race, I don't know anything about her as an actress, no one I know in RL talks about her, I can kind of believe that he wouldn't have realised the racist connotations.

Yeah I’ve just seen him on the news saying he had no idea who the parents were. He must think we’re all stupid, why would he have posted about a royal baby if he didn’t know a royal baby had been born. Horrible man

I can't accept that he could look at an image like that and link it to the royal baby without any realisation of the possible connotations. This is a broadcaster who should be even more aware of what he tweets , writes and says. BBC were right to act, whether they should have suspended him first to look into his intention is questionable.
