What do you mean by Meghan’s “so called race”?

I mean most of the ways people use the word "race" are biologically speaking, fucking nonsense and it annoys the hell out of me, but that's probably a diversion we shouldn't follow.

NoSauce · 09/05/2019 13:39

Just been reading the comments on the BBC FB page, so many of them saying that DB was just making a joke, that there’s so many “snowflakes” out there being offended and what happened to freedom of speech? There are many people horrified at DB’s tweet too thankfully.

Just depressing though that there are so many people with these attitudes and thoughts.

Zampa · 09/05/2019 13:41

Danny Baker made a racist comment and deserves everything he gets. But please can people not equate his being a football fan with him being a racist?

I'm a 4th generation Millwall fan. In all my years as a season ticket holder, I've heard two racist comments, both of which I challenged. Yes, racists watch football. They also drive cars, watch EastEnders and go abroad on holiday.

As Reg Burr said "Millwall are a convenient coat peg upon which football and society can hang it's ills".

Anyway, always thought he was an arrogant and insecure little man. His "apology" proves this.

I certainly don’t think he’s racist because he is a football fan.

I think his in-depth analysis of the game as a pundit and as a fan of Millwall mean he cannot possibly use “I didn’t know monkeys were racist” as a defence.

ChicCroissant · 09/05/2019 13:43

He's been sacked (unsurprisingly) but still doesn't seem overly apologetic about it, unfortunately.

Ghanagirl · 09/05/2019 13:43

@Tanith
Why don’t you save your concern for racism aimed at a newborn infant.

justarandomtricycle · 09/05/2019 13:43

White people are

White people are not anything as a group. Black people are not anything as a group.

Prior to the modern wave of intersectional nonsense, this was uncontroversial to say and all that remained was to mop the pockets of cunts who still thought like this.

It's very sad that we appear to be moving backwards and categorizing people and grievances by SKIN COLOUR of all things is being rationalized as ok again.

Nickpan · 09/05/2019 13:43

I think he was more daft than racist, and certainly daft enough to be sacked

JacquesHammer · 09/05/2019 13:43

NoSauce

DB will become some sort of martyr for the casual racist

ShatnersWig · 09/05/2019 13:43

@derxa Sorry, Sugar's tweet was about the Senegal Football team.

Sugar has over ten times the number of followers as Danny Baker on Twitter (5.31 million v 504,000). So his racist shit was seen by so many more people yet far less outrage, far fewer calls for him to be sacked.

Why?

Jsmith99 · 09/05/2019 13:44

I’m delighted he has been sacked because I can’t stand him or his show. Maybe now we can have something decent to listen to on 5 live on a Saturday morning.

justarandomtricycle · 09/05/2019 13:45

Yep. The BBC cannot employ people who will do things like this, bottom line.

Calloway · 09/05/2019 13:46

Farage is a completely different kettle of fish, as the leader of a political party that looks like storming the EU elections, there’s sadly no option but to give him air time.

Not wanting to derail the thread but Farage would be nowhere if the BBC hadn't devoted themselves to raising his profile over the years.

Alsohuman · 09/05/2019 13:47

@Shatnerswig, you can’t be sacked unless you’re employed. The BBC doesn’t employ Sugar.

This has been withdrawn by MNHQ on the poster's request.

ShatnersWig · 09/05/2019 13:49

@alsohuman You may be right, and that may be the distinction the BBC have chosen to use. But if that's the case, that makes them appear worse in my eyes. They should have told the production company that they would no longer buy or finance the programme (whichever it is) with Sugar still at the helm. The fact they didn't shows that they didn't want to lose a ratings winner (7 million viewers).

Alsohuman · 09/05/2019 13:50

Sorry @Calloway, but that just isn’t true. UKIP has had no more coverage from the BBC than the rest of the media. Daily Fail, Express, Sun?

didofido · 09/05/2019 13:51

My first thought, I must admit, was "what a horrible thing to post about someone's PFD, even if you don't like royalty"
Then, several minutes later, "My God! It's about Meghan's African background!" Absolutely intolerable...

YouJustDoYou · 09/05/2019 13:53

Disgusting thing to post. Glad he's been sacked. These people need to learn they can't get away with doing things like that.

Calloway · 09/05/2019 13:55

UKIP have had a disproportionate amount of representation on QT compared to other small parties. Tonight will be Farage's 33rd appearance. No one else has appeared on the programme as often.

Alsohuman · 09/05/2019 14:01

Isn’t that because the main parties have more people to go round? I don’t recall May or Corbyn ever appearing on QT.

Ces6 · 09/05/2019 14:01

@Ghanagirl
It says a lot about you if you think that
Yes. It says that I hate this knee-jerk decision to think the worst of people and think it actually just exacerbates the problem.

ShatnersWig · 09/05/2019 14:02

@Alsohuman But Farage, who has failed 7 times to become an MP and is "only" an MEP, has made 33 appearances now on BBC's Question Time.

Oh, that's a production company too.

I'm trying to locate full info as at now for other notables, but the only comparison table I can find at the moment is from March 2015. At that point, the most frequent QT guest was Caroline Flint with 13 appearances. Ken Clarke tied with Diane Abbott and Farage next at 11. Yet Clarke has been an MP for decades and held the second most senior Government post at one time, so hardly commensurate. Vince Cable had 10 appearances.

So, Farage has more than doubled his appearances in the last 4 years. I'm betting that is not the case with Clarke or Cable. who are both still MPs (Farage never, remember). Cable is a party leader, which Farage wasn't for some of the last four years.

BertrandRussell · 09/05/2019 14:05

Amazing what Boris Johnson can get away with- picanniny smiles, anyone?
