Exactly Bertrand! DB's was probably a mistake- which he apologised for. Other people's overt racism gets a free pass!

quizqueen · 09/05/2019 14:07

If you saw the Disney 101 Dalmatians film, do you remember when Roger was walking Pongo in the park and he was watching other dog owners walking their dogs and they were made to look like the dog they owned e.g. a hippy with long hair and a pointy nose with an Afghan Hound and a little fat woman with a flat face and an upturned nose with a pug. Of course, these were all white people and it was amusing so it must be okay to caricature them! As usual, white people offended on behalf of others.

JacquesHammer · 09/05/2019 14:09

So? Are we suggesting that because other (similar aged white men...) made racist comments and weren’t sacked we shouldn’t start doing it now?

On the contrary I think it’s positive.

Calloway · 09/05/2019 14:09

Isn’t that because the main parties have more people to go round? I don’t recall May or Corbyn ever appearing on QT.

May and Corbyn's advisors would most likely rather lock them in a cellar than allow them to appear on QT. Neither are particularly skilled in thinking or talking on the hoof.

But I know that up until the end of 2018 QT had never had a single appearance from a pro-EU MEP. All UKIP and I think a couple Tories.

As I said, I don't want to derail but I'm cynical to say the least about the BBC and how much they really care about racism.

Ces6 · 09/05/2019 14:11

@jacqueshammer
I don't think anyone should be sacked for one remark. It doesn't help anyone.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 09/05/2019 14:12

DB's was probably a mistake mistake being he didnt expect the reaction he got- hes not naive to this monkey insult

RedDogsBeg · 09/05/2019 14:12

Rather than asking where the forgiveness is, ask why can't people with more melanin be treated with equal respect. We're not a sub species, we're human.

Completely agree KingHenrysCodpiece.

People twisting themselves inside out saying don't blame Millwall or football are missing the point, it is precisely because of Danny Baker being steeped in football culture that there is no way he can claim not being aware of the racist connotation of using an image of a chimpanzee in respect of a child of an adult with African heritage. Again, did he use this image for William and Catherine's children? If not, why not? No difference regarding the class element or media circus yet that image was not relevant on that occasion? Give me a break, this was deliberate and considered and his paucity of an apology and attempts to shift the focus onto people who saw exactly what he was doing is risible.

Costacoffeeplease · 09/05/2019 14:14

I can’t believe DB has ever had a following, or been popular but there’s no accounting for taste

I’m not surprised at all, he came across as a nasty little man on I’m a celebrity. Good riddance at last, can’t believe anyone can defend the twat

JacquesHammer · 09/05/2019 14:14

I don't think anyone should be sacked for one remark. It doesn't help anyone

I disagree. If remarks are obviously racist then there really is no better course of action.

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2019 14:15

Pls failure to apologise

Acis · 09/05/2019 14:16

It's really difficult to believe that the BBC couldn't have spread their UKIP representative invitations for Question Time over the years. OK, UKIP may have struggled to put up someone as articulate, but it's not the BBC's place to help them disguise that. The problem with opting for Farage every time is that it's helped him to build up his own little personality cult, which in turn has been a major factor in his being able to get the Brexit Party off the ground.

Gigglinghysterically · 09/05/2019 14:22

I'm quite conflicted over this. When I saw it I actually wondered what the hell it was about and finally thought it must be racist because of the chimp. However, it didn't stand out as glaringly obvious to me because both the parents look like white British. It would definitely have been stood out as outrageously racist if one parent had been black.

When I read Danny Baker's explanation after he'd been sacked and he explained it was a gag about "a posh chimp" and that he would have done the same had it been Boris Johnson (meaning any other posh person) leaving the hospital with a new baby, then I can see what he means.

He has explained it and said he deleted the tweet when the racist connotations were pointed out to him but I think he should have apologised wholeheartedly for his stupidity and lack of foresight.

I tend to believe him , he didn't see it as racist because he doesn't see race, or as he says his mind isn't diseased. He's just a bit of a twat! Oh well, he's lost his job and getting a kicking in the press and social media so he's got his punishment.

RedDogsBeg · 09/05/2019 14:24

quizqueen are you seriously saying it's okay to characterise BAME people as chimpanzees?

SouthWestmom · 09/05/2019 14:25

Now Sheilagh Fogarty defending him.

SouthWestmom · 09/05/2019 14:27

How unfortunate for DB that he only remembered to post this hilarious image to lampoon posh people now.

pineapplebryanbrown · 09/05/2019 14:28

Even if both parents were white British it's a hurtful photo. I would be in tears if someone had compared my pfb to a chimp.

NoSauce · 09/05/2019 14:28

I don't think anyone should be sacked for one remark. It doesn't help anyone

The BBC cannot seen to be standing by DB and this tweet of his. One comment or 50 comments it doesn’t matter, it was offensive and racist and hopefully it will make others think twice about posting such comments/tweets/memes in future and how their actions affect people.

formerbabe · 09/05/2019 14:28

I can't see how anyone can defend this.

SouthWestmom · 09/05/2019 14:29

Fucking hell I cannot believe Sheilagh Fogarty - he sounded very sincere to me/ I believe him/

Wtf are these people on

TattiePants · 09/05/2019 14:30

As usual, white people offended on behalf of others.

Quizqueen so are you suggesting that white people say nothing when they see racism as it doesn't affect them? Really?

formerbabe · 09/05/2019 14:30

As usual, white people offended on behalf of others

What a very stupid thing to say.

RedDogsBeg · 09/05/2019 14:31

Gigglinghysterically so why has he never used that particular picture for any of the other posh births of Royals?

he didn't see it as racist because he doesn't see race, or as he says his mind isn't diseased.

and as has been pointed out several times on this thread that is a pathetic justification and attempt to shift the blame for his actions onto others.

formerbabe · 09/05/2019 14:31

I'm white and have mixed race children. Am I allowed to be offended?

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2019 14:32

Are your children mixed race or 'mixed race', eh eh?

NoSauce · 09/05/2019 14:32

Are you actually for real?
