Not convinced...
Will he be Prince Archie?!

OP posts:
CodenameVillanelle · 09/05/2019 06:53

He is Archibald officially isn't he?

DeadWife · 09/05/2019 06:56

I like the etymology of the name: pure, genuine, precious or bold/strong. Lovely.

HBStowe · 09/05/2019 07:15

He’s Master Archie on the line of succession which is, in my opinion, very sweet.

I like the name Archie. Here in Scotland it clearly doesn’t have the negative connotations that had led to all the pearl clutching in England.

In Scotland it is seen as a pretty posh name - similar vibe to Hector / Lachlan / Magnus etc.

NameChangeNugget · 09/05/2019 07:20

It’s not your circus... Grin

DeadWife · 09/05/2019 07:20

Southerner here and I like it. Don't listen to all the curtain-twitchers Grin.

Nanny0gg · 09/05/2019 07:26

Apparently though it's Prince George's nickname.
That would have a thread on here!

My BiL and SiL have named their DS my DS nickname. AIBU to be raging?

EdtheBear · 09/05/2019 07:36

Why on earth would Archie be a nickname for George?

x2boys · 09/05/2019 07:39

Whilst its not to my taste do we really need another thread about it?

MissEliza · 09/05/2019 09:46

@PyongyangKipperbang that makes sense

Nanny0gg · 09/05/2019 11:16

Why on earth would Archie be a nickname for George?

It might not be a nickname from his name but could be for a variety of other reasons

WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 09/05/2019 11:19

It seems like a really normal name to me- there's plenty of kids called Archie and Harrison where I live (South England).

UCOinanOCG · 09/05/2019 11:22

I read on the BBC news website that H and M don't want a formal title for him so he will be known as Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

essayessay · 09/05/2019 11:26

Maybe Archie stands for ArchdukeSmile

NCforthis2019 · 09/05/2019 11:27

Officially he is going to be known as Master Archie I think.

HBStowe · 09/05/2019 11:33

I don’t think Archie is actually George’s nickname, there was just some funny story about how he once told a dog-walker that was his name.

I can’t see why he would be named George but called Archie by his family - it would be really unusual, no? And I really doubt that Harry and Meghan would have chosen the name if it’s also what they’re all really calling George.

I expect that it’s something mildly amusing George did once (in the way small children have of not always being logical etc) and it’s just been seized upon by the hordes of people who want another excuse to criticise Meghan for being difficult / selfish / entitled / thoughtless / whatever.

HappinessIsKey · 09/05/2019 11:39

I reckon little Prince George potentially has been ear wigging on mummy and daddy talking about Meghan and Harry deciding on the name Archie..and the name has been stuck in his head and that's why George said it was his name 😂

EdtheBear · 09/05/2019 11:39

HBStowe that makes a lot of sense.

MindyStClaire · 09/05/2019 11:58

I suspect W&K's kids might be drilled to give fake names to strangers for security. Archie was reported in the press so if that's the reason, he'll be giving another name now anyway.

Rainbunny · 09/05/2019 12:00

"Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor" sounds like ne'er do well drunken toff character from a Jeeves & Wooster story. However Prince Archie sounds just wrong so good thing they aren't trying to do that.

DeadWife · 09/05/2019 12:04

I think it sounds like a complete Rake from a Georgette Heyer ...

LagunaBubbles · 09/05/2019 12:06

Not convinced about what??

LaurieMarlow · 09/05/2019 12:09

The nickname for George thing is a very tenuous story. Much more likely he heard the name discussed and repeated it to a stranger.

hellsbells99 · 09/05/2019 12:16

I hate to say it but there is a very slim chance that Kate, Wills and their children could have an accident in the future, in which case Harry and Archie would then be in line for King. So there is always a very small possibility that we could have a Prince Archie.
I hope this post isn't taken in bad taste but horrible things have been known to happen.

2rebecca · 09/05/2019 12:27

Harrison is fine. Archie is a name as nickname thing which I dislike. Agree Prince Archie just sounds silly. It's not very classy.

2rebecca · 09/05/2019 12:28

nickname as name, got it wrong way round
