It's not like you all have not been wondering

OP posts:
JacquesHammer · 08/05/2019 18:36

I am American myself and hate the current crop of names people seem to be coming up with over there. Not the way I would personally choose to honor that side of his heritage, with a daft name

Harrison is hardly a new-fangled name.

Also the angst over “surnames as given names”, again hardly a new or particularly controversial thing!

wigglybeezer · 08/05/2019 18:36

As mentioned by a pp, Archie is a very popular name in private schools up here in Scotland, however, it also seems to be popular with owners of West Highland White terrier s, I know at least three!

SamanthaBrique · 08/05/2019 18:36

FWIW I think George is a horribly stuffy name for a young child but funnily enough William and Kate didn't pay any attention to my opinion...

CatOnTheBannister · 08/05/2019 18:37

Harrison Ford will be raising a Wine

Weird how everyone hates the daily mail yet some of the comments on this thread and others about Meghan Markle are a hell of a lot worse than the mail comment section

KingHenrysCodpiece · 08/05/2019 18:38

But Archie is also an ordinary name isn't it?

That's the point. It is very common. Twinned with Harrison (Harry's Son) it comes across chavy. These things shouldn't matter, but they do.

Especially when the people involved literally represent the class system and are part of keeping it going. So pointing out that it lacks that upper class ring is appropriate here if in no other context.

Alsohuman · 08/05/2019 18:39

Or even airs and graces, perhaps?

KennDodd · 08/05/2019 18:39

Disappointed he doesn't have the last name Markle.

AllAboutMeAlways · 08/05/2019 18:40

“Harry’s son”

That’s so outstandingly naff I actually feel embarrassed for them.

OVienna · 08/05/2019 18:40

It's definitely a trend that has accelerated in the last few years, the last name as a first name, from what I have seen from family and friends and school and university FB groups. It used to be mostly a cultural thing too, associated with the South.

Some of the names work. I don't personally like Harrison and definitely not in this context - 'son of Harry' for me is the daft bit.

Nonnymum · 08/05/2019 18:41

He won't get a title when Charles is King. He could have had a title now if Harry and Megan had wanted him to. Like Princess Anne they have decided for him not to have one. Princess Anne's children are grandchildren of the monarch but are just plain Peter and Zara.

MarshaBradyo · 08/05/2019 18:41

That last name would elevate anything, sounds good

hazeyjane · 08/05/2019 18:42

Ah, Nearlythere, such charming words....maybe done in cross stitch as a gift for the new parents..."I've never met a Harrison that wasn't .......etc"

As f9r your other post....Well, what a peach of a human you are.

OVienna · 08/05/2019 18:42

@allaboutme

“Harry’s son”

Yes, this. Did no one seriously think of saying anything? Did they really not notice? Did they really mean to do that???? I sort of feel like it's a situation where they DIDN'T...which is worse. It's now on the tea towels, as they say.

JacquesHammer · 08/05/2019 18:42

My family tree is littered with it from countless generations back.

All boys have mother’s maiden name as a middle name. We’ve got some amazing ones.

But then in the early 1800s we had a spate of children - all girls - named after places on the other side Grin

Alsohuman · 08/05/2019 18:43

They told you this, did they @Nonnymum?

Pilgit · 08/05/2019 18:43

Well it's certainly got the common touch......

Hate shortened names. Harrison - an okay name - except if your father is called Harry. Then it's just naff.

OVienna · 08/05/2019 18:44

@Jacques - I don't doubt it is. And I'm sure you have lovely names - maybe suggest one to them for next time! Wink

Not an everyday thing for most people though.

malificent7 · 08/05/2019 18:44

Chavy is a horrible expression....very sneery.
It's a lovely name.
It's about time we got rid of all these hideous assumptions about what certain classes should call their kids.

malificent7 · 08/05/2019 18:45

Love Harrison...i always think of Harrison Ford.

hazeyjane · 08/05/2019 18:45

Archie how awful, never liked Louis either.....what's wrong with Louis? Not royal enough for you?!

Nearlythere1 · 08/05/2019 18:46

@hazeyjane thanks haha. Given where you're from I guess you would know a few little harrison shits yourself!

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 08/05/2019 18:46

Really dislike the name Archie, but I do think Archie Harrison flows quite nicely.

Harrison is ok, not my favourite but I'm surprised they chose it with it being similar to his dads name.

Inliverpool1 · 08/05/2019 18:46

I know a Harrison his parents will be insufferable now, I think it’s a chavy name Archie and Harrison but it’s not my kid sooooo
