To worry that my levonelle failed?

Hi all, I posted a similar thread on family planning but it seemed not active.

Long story short, I took levonelle after a broken condom incident early in my cycle, before ovulation would have occurred for me.

Had a random mid-cycle bleed but now my period is several days late.

I did a pregnancy test which was NEGATIVE but I’m still experiencing symptoms like very sore breasts and awful weepy hormonal moods. (and possibly nausea but I’m not sure if I’m just imagining that?)

AIBU to think I could still actually be pregnant?

The MAP can affect the date of your period and also cause the hormonal effects. If you’ve had a negative test, then it’s probably just the effects of the pill.

Thank you for your reply. It’s now actually nearly 4 weeks since I took the MAP, could the hormones still be affecting me now?

It won’t be the hormones from the MAP affecting you now, but your own hormones trying to get back on track. From what I remember, Levonelle contains a huge dose of progesterone that basically resets your natural cycle by forcing your body to have a period. Obviously any potentially fertilised egg gets expelled in the process. After such a high dose it takes a while for your body to readjust, and I think 1-2 months is definitely normal to still be feeling the aftereffects! That random “mid cycle” bleed was actually your period so you should start counting your new cycle from there.

I took Levonelle once many years ago and had weird cycles/bleeding for several months afterwards.

today, though my boobs are still sore and still no period. I’ll test again in a few days if it still doesn’t arrive.
