Abnormal smear

Hi everyone.

Just need some reassurance really. I had my smear result back as high grade (moderate) 26th of March. Went for a colposcopy on 30th of March. Due to just having a miscarriage they did not want to perform the LOOP, took a biopsy, the consultant said it was a small area of abnormalities, didn't look sinister but couldn't tell me that 100% as not allowed! He said my results would be back in 4-6 weeks but didn't really seem concerned, told me to go off and have fun on holiday and to not worry. They were all so lovely but they keep telling me not to worry and if there was anything bad he would of done the LOOP procedure straight away weather or not I had a miscarriage or not, told me I shouldn't be thinking of the C word and to not google or worry but I will properly need to come back for LOOP which I knew that anyway. But I'm so worried!! Can't stop thinking of the worse and was wondering if anyone can calm my nerves. I have some good days but mostly days where I'm worried.

Diopsy results took about 4 weeks the results after my lletz procedure to remove the cells should have been 6-8 weeks was closer to 13 due to massive back log.

Hi I had my smear done October 2014 and results came back November as CIN 3, finally got my appointment for the February and had LLETZ done, they also took a biopsy same time and all came back clear. Had a re test done 6 months later and recently just had my 3 yearly one since the treatment - all clear again.
Honestly try not to worry, he’s saying for certain because he could get into trouble for giving you an answer before the results. But he is telling you he don’t think it’s anything sinister. Hope you get your results soon Flowers
Don’t google, I did and I hated myself after as google always gives worse case scenario

charlou89 · 10/05/2019 23:37

@B3ck89 hey Thankyou for your comment. I'm glad everything went ok for you. Yeah I know what you mean about google. That's what I done first week but I've decided to stay well clear after the nurse also telling me the same thing.

Yeah I understand he properly wouldn't of said that if he had seen something. Just wish he would of done the loop instead of a biopsy. But as most people have said if he had seen something regardless of the miscarriage he would of performed the loop. Just can't help but overthink things all the time xx

Honestly if it’s only moderate changes you have nothing to worry about, remember it can take a long time for abnormal cells to even potentially turn into something. I understand your worry though xxx

My experience was twenty years ago, luckily for me that was back in the day when you got a smear if sexually active and not based on age!
My experience was abnormal smear, then a procedure to take a further sample (long time ago can’t remember what they called it but basically a biopsy), I required laser treatment then follow up smear, all was well and I went yearly for five years, had no issues at all.
Received a letter yesterday telling me this smear was abnormal but have no worries as treatment was simple enough first time and I can only imagine it’s improved since then.

charlou89 · 11/05/2019 17:21

@B3ck89 yeah I'm hoping my biopsy matches with the smear results cause some people don't have the same match. Just over paranoid. I hate the unknown. Your mind just runs away with you.
It's comforting that all you women have had a good result, when it's yourself you can't help but think of the worse xx

I had CIN3 followed by treatment (can't remember if it was LLETZ or what) 25 years ago.

Normal smears and 3 healthy children since then.

Last year I went for a smear after missing one due to sexual assault. I had my GP do it and she called me that evening to say she was extremely concerned by what she had seen and had referred me to the gynaecologists at the hospital and asked me to come in the next day for blood tests.

I totally lost my shit and my made myself very ill. My smear results came back abnormal, the abnormal patch was identify and they found cell masses which turned out to be non cancerous.

It was very very stressful. After six months I was fine and I’m back on annual smear tests (just had one this morning and they’ve found a bloody cyst!). Weirdly enough last year I had also just miscarried.

Panic in proportion but most importantly look after yourself very well! Try and do something you enjoy doing everyday (and I would highly recommend staying of google!).

charlou89 · 30/09/2019 10:49

@Flude hi hun so sorry to hear about your miscarriage I'm glad you was all clear. I'm nervous about my six month smear after my LLETZ. I'm praying it's going to be ok.
Can a cyst cause an abnormal smear? Xx

Just had my 6 monthly smear test of cure and have still got HPV but no abnormal cells going for a colposcopy today still worried thought everything would be ok after the LLETZ xx
