Mostly posting for traffic, but I'm getting really fed up of the state of the skin on my hands.

I can get this dry, horrible, sore skin anywhere and it usually flares up on my neck, face and hands. Have been prescribed creams that clear up my neck and face, but not my hands.

My fingers feel like they are burning, it's awful, so sore and ugly Sad

Having had a lot of radiotherapy on my hand I was recommended QV cream to help with the healing of my skin, its fantastic.

I buy it off Amazon and decant it all over the house in the car my bag and so on. I always now wear rubber gloves when washing up/cleaning etc and put loads on before I put the gloves on (never worn rubber gloves before)

so I bought the hemp hand cream from the body shop yesterday, have been using gloves for all washing up and cleaning and have clear gloves coming for when I'm baking and cooking (have no baking to do at the moment) and I feel even with just two days of using gloves for washing up and a couple of applications of the hand cream my hands feel a bit better, they are still cracked and a bit red, but aren't burning anymore!

I see the nurse today at 1.50pm, will update then for those interested! also had a look in the chemist yesterday when picking up a prescription for any creams mentioned in this thread, but didn't see any on the shelves, maybe would have to ask behind the counter.

Wow what a difference already,so glad the hemp cream is working for you!

MyBlueMoonbeam · 10/05/2019 21:08

I have OCD so wash my hands a lot, there was a point where i couldnt even bend my hands otherwise they would split.

This is me & my hands are very bad tonight - I can't use anything with any type of perfume or parabens or SLS etc.
I'm going to ice them later - that sometimes helps.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 10/05/2019 23:39

@tartandreams Please be careful with gloves- some powders inside gloves can irritate your hands further. Make sure they are latex free too, as that can make them worse!!

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 10/05/2019 23:40

Try vinyl gloves

FaithInfinity · 11/05/2019 00:03

I have contact dermatitis, it started when my work place changed the soap. I’m going to capitalise this:
GET A DERMATOLOGY REFERRAL!!!! Seriously, yours is a bad case. When I got referred, I had skin patch testing to see if anything in particular set it off. They prescribed me diprobase which helps but the game changer was dermol which is an emollient but they prescribe for me to use as a soap substitute. I can tell within minutes if I use other soap now. I use it instead of shower gel too. It made a huge difference to me.

thirdfiddle · 11/05/2019 00:04

Gawd yes snowy, those "cotton flock lining"s give me hives. I think it's the fine fibres not any powder necessarily as fluffy linings in 100% cotton joggers get me too. But hopefully OP would know if she had that sort of issue.

QuestionableMouse · 11/05/2019 00:08

I use a bit of Savlon daily. Keeps my hands from getting chapped.

JintyMac · 11/05/2019 00:29

These photos of your hands look very familiar! Mine were so bad I ended up in tears at the GP begging her to refer me to a dermatologist. She did, they did allergy tests and it turned out I was allergic to latex and vinyl (the types of gloves I had been wearing for my work) The dermatologist couldn't understand why I wasn't referred earlier.

tartandreams · 11/05/2019 20:06

An update, I seen the nurse, she said my hands were very very dehydrated and like leather as a result, she gave me this (the first photo) to put on with cotton gloves and a steroid cream only to use if I feel I really need it. To the PP I do have dermol in the bathroom for hand washing. Have been sticking to gloves for washing up, waiting on my cooking gloves arriving and bought bar soap for hand washing instead of liquid! Also changed my body wash today to sanex to see if that makes any difference at all!

When my hands are fine (rarely) they are actually lovely and soft, I just want my hands to be nice again!!

poor you, that looks sore.

I would try wearing gloves, maybe those single use ones with cotton ones underneath to absorb the sweating.
I swear by layering creams when my eczema is bad: aveno first then when that's sunk in weleda skin food or nivea blue pots.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 11/05/2019 20:13

Have only read some of the thread so can't be sure what you've tried. I work in an allergy clinic which includes eczema. The consultant is very insistent that patients use their steroid cream twice a day for two weeks (even if it's cleared up before then) and emollient at four times a day, at least, every day. You need to be really diligent with it to control it. As others have suggested, you are going to have to wear gloves for baking/washing.

tartandreams · 11/05/2019 20:17

they aren't as bad as they were in terms of how the feel to me, but they still don't look great! perseverance!

I really like gloves in a bottle
They definitely look better Smile

Hatemadeupwords · 11/05/2019 20:44

Atrixo fixed mine, spent ages trying all sort of stuff before finding Atrixo (yellow pot green lid not the blue squeezy pack that didn't work)

HandInHandIsTheOnlyWayToLand · 11/05/2019 21:16

Have you tried vitamin D capsules? Tried in desperation after another horrendous eczema flair up at Christmas, now take them daily. Hasn’t completely cleared it up but it’s got considerably better. It took a good few weeks to kick in but it’s helped to make it a bit more manageable!

ClariceBeansUncle · 11/05/2019 21:18

Eucerin 10% urea slathered on at night. It's amazing.

ClariceBeansUncle · 11/05/2019 21:22

Sorry, posted too soon. It really 'sinks in' whereas many of the cosmetic-type creams and E45 I find really don't.

FrankiesKnuckle · 11/05/2019 21:27

Not RTFT but try asking for tacrolimus ointment - I have chronic allergic dermatitis on hands, steroids no longer help in fact make worse.
Tacro is now the only thing that helps. It's script time only.

tartandreams · 20/05/2019 16:14

update Grin so much better! a lot of keeping on top of it required, but much better!

Wow, that's an amazing difference in, what, a fortnight? Your skin will keep getting stronger now it's not healing cracks all the time. Well done because I know it's faff remembering the gloves and moisturiser, particularly when it starts to feel better and not remind you by being sore.
