Mostly posting for traffic, but I'm getting really fed up of the state of the skin on my hands.

I can get this dry, horrible, sore skin anywhere and it usually flares up on my neck, face and hands. Have been prescribed creams that clear up my neck and face, but not my hands.

My fingers feel like they are burning, it's awful, so sore and ugly Sad

I'm sure it'll have been mentioned but the Hemp hand cream from the body shop is awesome. It's quite greasy but bloody hell it works!!!

Spicypizza · 07/05/2019 23:28

Have the same trouble here aswell so following with interest.
I’m now looking into vitamins as a way of trying to help rather than relying on creams.
Apparently vitamin d is helpful for skin issues so I’m giving that a go!

PickAChew · 07/05/2019 23:39

A few people like the bodyshop hemp hand cream - it left my hands red raw.

If I'm out and about and my knuckles are sore and i don't have my flexitol to hand, I rub my burts bees lip balm over the itchy bits. Tingly, but the mutt's nuts.

@tartandreams I feel your pain . My dd 21 has severe dermatitis on both hands. Hydrocortisone 1% and various moisturizers like o’keeffes, neutrogena, E45, silcocks base made absolutely no difference . She saw a dermatologist who prescribed a strong steroid cream called Elocon applied very sparingly followed by a moisturizer called Lipakar ( la roche posay) . She puts on clean white cotton gloves over both creams at night .
She was also told to use Lipikar body and hand wash . The difference in a week was amazing . The steroid is not for long term use so now she only uses it if she gets a flare up . She’s a medical student so has to wash her hands a lot which is very harsh on them.

La Roche Posay have another cream that we discovered lately and found to be even better (cicaplast repair balm . I’ve started using it on my face . It’s like butter but has worked wonders on my fine lines

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream... wonderfully healing x

lilabet2 · 07/05/2019 23:53

Washing up liquid really wrecks hands so washing up gloves are important.

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula (the concentrated type) works miracles on bleeding and chapped hands, particularly if you leave it on overnight and even better if you wear conditioning gloves overnight.

CSIblonde · 07/05/2019 23:54

E45 wash every time you need to put your hands in water works wonders for me. Folllowed by Atrixo handcream 4 or 5times a day and then a thin coat of baby oil left on. overnight

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 07/05/2019 23:58

Coconut oil. Absolute game changer for me. Greasy as anything but if you keep using it as a barrier it can clear it in a few days.

rolos · 08/05/2019 00:03

Vaseline?

Or have you tried some sort of cream/lotion on your hands then those moisturising gloves you can wear in bed overnight?
However if the skin actually splits I think it’s best to let it air for a while and heal and not wear the gloves!

Lalliella · 08/05/2019 00:19

Another vote for Child’s Farm baby moisturiser. I use the unperfumed one as perfumes make me worse. It’s quite cheap and you can get it from Boots.

Yura · 08/05/2019 05:23

Have you tried wearing cotton (!!!) glives at night? thick layer of cream, gloves on top (socks will do as well)

Skinnydecafflatte · 08/05/2019 05:53

For me it was bathroom cleaner that really set mine off. Horrible dry hands and really sore, red and itchy, used to wake me up in the night. Hydrocortisone cream twice s day but basically be meticulous about wearing gloves. I’d never wash up with out them, cleaning wearing gloves and moisturise like mad at other times ( another for Body Shop hemp handcream)?Took me a few years to get it under control but now I haven’t had a flare up in a couple of years. 🤞🏻

TrudesBlues · 08/05/2019 05:56

Udderly Smooth. It's amazing.

loveskaka · 08/05/2019 07:55

I'm in the same boat! Tried everything! Currently sitting with bandages on mine! Help!

MyBlueMoonbeam · 08/05/2019 08:03

Really depends at the end of the day whether or not it's ezcema tbh.

If it is avoid all creams with perfume parabens & SLS.

Ilovemylabrador · 08/05/2019 08:54

I think you really need to see a specialist and get some answer. It could be anything from an allergy to flour to something you are eating or overwashing. I had the same for many years and after about 20 years, I now have everything sorted but shampoo, washing, gloves are all eliminated and I now use the same ones. Soap allergies are common. I tried everything from creams to diplobase (greasy broken skin instead of dry broken skin). Good luck

InglouriousBasterd · 08/05/2019 08:59

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but Aveeno handcream - the one with the barrier effect - absolutely sorted my hands when they were beyond steroids.

Happyandglorious · 08/05/2019 09:16

I think you may have a fungus infection on your hands
I had something like that. It needed antibiotic cream.
If it's not that. I would recommend la Roche posay repairing balm. It's fantastic for all sorts ailments. And def wear disposable gloves instead of getting your hands wet all the time.
Good luck

tartandreams · 08/05/2019 10:10

Plan of action is gloves when washing up and cleaning ect, will message the GP again with these photos and will be going to the body shop for the hemp cream as recommended by lots of you lovely people!

Thanks and hugs to those who also suffer with skin problems, my husband says they feel like sandpaper EnvySad

I have tried lots of creams and light therapy. The only one that works for me is Cetreben which is available in Boots .

thismumismad · 08/05/2019 10:24

I'd recommend handmade soap it will gently clean and will nourish your skin with oils.

Missingstreetlife · 08/05/2019 10:36

Calendula or Nivea q10?
Get some throw away gloves on, would not want to eat what you cooked if skin flaky. Don't use antibacterial handwash, v harsh, just plain simple soap or unperfumed gel.
Rubber gloves to wash up. Dermatologist if not better

NerdyBird · 08/05/2019 17:02

I had to stop using liquid handsoap as it gave me dermatitis. I've also recently become allergic to salicylates and salicylic acid. Salicylates are in a surprising number of things.

Accountant222 · 08/05/2019 17:07

Have you tried taking a antihistamine every day, it's really helped my eczema

FabulouslyFab · 08/05/2019 17:09

Sorry but I am a little bit horrified that your hands are like that and you don’t already gloves when baking!
