Aibu to think it's a ridiculous method.

Hated having to do that as a child! I have very thick hair so it was hard to get it wet enough then rinsing was a nightmare. Much quicker and easier in the shower.

BogglesGoggles · 07/05/2019 15:16

This is really illuminating and really weird. Is it a British thing?

YesQueen · 07/05/2019 15:20

Because I apply all my hair product with my head upside down and with soaking wet hair and I scrub with conditioner for 5-10 mins. My back doesn't like me doing it in the shower and the conditioner turns it into an episode of ninja warrior!

RosamundDarnley · 07/05/2019 15:21

I used to colour my hair over the bath so I could see when the water ran clear but generally wash it while showering.

Innernutshell · 07/05/2019 15:22

I find it easier and quicker to wash in the sink. The tap is high enough to get your head under and bending over the bath to do it would make my back ache.

I don't mind doing it in the shower but don't always want a shower the same day. Also a lot of my hair falls out and it gets caught in the plug hole AND between my cheeks and I find that a bit annoying. Blush

qwertytrewq · 07/05/2019 15:23

I wash my hair in the shower at home but I work away for half the week and the water pressure is dreadful there; it's like standing in the rain. My hair is so long & thick I can't rinse it properly so when I'm away it never feels properly clean unless I've washed it in the sink. Not ideal as I'm quite tall and it's not great for my back but can't go around looking like an oil slick! Can't say I'd choose it if I had the choice though.

Etino · 07/05/2019 15:25

Oo, blast from the past- I haven’t done it for 30 years, but it was the way to do it when I was a child. Very occasionally I’ll do it over the bath with the attachment if I really don’t want to get wet.

Babdoc · 07/05/2019 15:26

I have very short hair, and have a bath or shower daily, so it’s simple to just shampoo and rinse it in there before I start soaping. Haven’t used the sink since the 1960’s, when we only had hot water once a week for baths and didn’t own a shower.

Bluntness100 · 07/05/2019 15:31

I had to do it when I broke my ankle and couldn't get in the shower. I don't think it's ideal to be honest, and it feels cleaner and easier doing it in thr shower, as I get to rinse better, but each to their own.

Justbreathing · 07/05/2019 15:32

Why would you need to bend over in the shower.
Why is a sink easier!
This thread is batshit crazy.

NKFell · 07/05/2019 15:33

@Antigon I wash my hair by standing by the bath and bending into it sometimes. I then wrap my hair in a towel wrap and hop into the shower. Are you my Mum? Grin

I've washed my DS' hair in the sink a few times, he used to hate water in his face so I'd wash it in the sink then pop him in the bath.

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 07/05/2019 15:35

because I got funny looks trying to do it in the toilet.

Preggosaurus9 · 07/05/2019 15:39

Recently I've been washing my hair in the sink weekly because I have nausea and vomiting in pregnancy and the steam from the shower makes me feel worse. Actually I have quite liked it for a change, my hair is long and thick to the point where I cut it shorter and put layers in a few weeks ago to try and reduce washing time, and I definitely feel like I'm getting a good thorough rinse. Also takes less time as not faffing about doing anything else. Maybe I'll stick with it based on this thread Grin

Antigon · 07/05/2019 15:42

@NKFell

Are you my Mum?

No, but she sounds fab! Grin

Don't knock us until you've tried it!

englishdictionary · 07/05/2019 15:42

I can't do it because after the initial wet, shampoo, dip hair into sink full of water I would then need to empty and refill the sink tenteennmillion times before all the shampoo got rinsed out of it. Then there is the conditioner issue...

dementedpixie · 07/05/2019 15:46

you don't fill the sink, you put your head under the running tap. Our kitchen sink had a tall mixer tap so it was easy to get your head under it

Justbreathing · 07/05/2019 15:50

Kitchen sink!! Bloody hell

YesQueen · 07/05/2019 15:50

@Justbreathing because my whole hair routine is upside down Grin I follow the curly girl method. Plus it saves water as I'm scrubbing my scalp for 5-10 mins and I get cold if I switch the water off

Cadsuane · 07/05/2019 15:50

I do mine at the kitchen sink or over the bath. My eczema would go through the roof if I did it in the shower. As it is I have to wear gloves and use various portions to treat my scalp. I also only use conditioner as my scalp would bleed with shampoo. It's also better for curly hair anyway.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 07/05/2019 15:53

I wash my hair over the bath most days. I also shower daily, but have horrid hay fever so rinse off my hair as a minimum before bed every day.

Saavhi · 07/05/2019 15:55

Kitchen sink?!

OP posts:
User10fuckingmillion · 07/05/2019 15:58

Saves water?! It would take me bloody years so I imagine it would waste a good deal of water.
I suppose it would work better with short hair

NameChangeNugget · 07/05/2019 16:09

Each to their own I say.

Never heard of this before

PyongyangKipperbang · 07/05/2019 16:11

I do mine in the kitchen sink too.

I have a big belfast sink and a mixer hose tap thingy. Much much quicker than doing it in the shower and I get a better rinse so I dont get an itchy scalp from shampoo/conditioner residue. Oh and its higher than the bathroom sink so less stress on the back.

PyongyangKipperbang · 07/05/2019 16:14

People have never heard of this before?! What on earth do you think we did before showers were standard?

You might find this hard to believe, but there was life before 1980 and somehow we all survived Hmm
