Fair treatment of Fridays

My employer has a large volume of colleagues with flexible working patterns and compressed hours. Unfortunately due to historical demands - many of my coworkers take their non working day on Friday.

For example there are four of us that does my specific type of role- me, one who is off every Friday, and the other two are off alternating Fridays.
So at best before anyone is on holiday or sick - there's only two of us in the office. Add if one of us two are on holiday leave or off sick - it's down to one of us.

This means that it's becoming nearly impossible for me to take a holiday on a Friday because it'll leave just one of my colleagues in the office as the others don't work Fridays.

My boss declines my requests for the odd Friday or Friday afternoons off on holiday on the basis of insufficient cover yet happily allows my coworkers off every Friday or every second Friday.
How is this fair or reasonable? I get that theire working pattern is to be off every Friday or every second Friday but surely that's unfair to then expect their colleagues to work every Friday for eternity?

YANBU. There should be adequate cover if you are ill or on holiday!

So what happens when you are off for a fortnight? presumably they cover it or manage? If so why doesn't the same thing happen whenever you want a friday off.

So very true. I'm at the point now where I don't feel that I can ask for a Friday off on holiday and even if I was ill- would need to work

What happens if someone requested a week or two off? Surely you're not all popping off on 6 day holidays and getting back for your Friday?

This is unfair. Where I work they try and balance part-time people's days off. When the most recent one who requested a friday they should have been told it wasn't available.
