I feel so angry with Tommee Tippee that they've "gifted" her a perfect prep machine. Completely undermines her wish if she wants to breast feed. Plus she's such an influencer how much will this reduce our national breast feeding rates? Pregnant women will go and buy one just because she has one and not give themselves a chance to breastfeed Angry

OP posts:

@stairway it's a necklace that has a preserved few drops of breast milk in as a souvenir for mum. Lots of places make them, MN is a bit sneers about them but I think they're awesome!

My friend bought a perfect prep and put it by her bedside for night feeds, which takes away the getting up to the fridge part I guess

TrixieFranklin · 05/05/2019 22:30

She's put something on her stories about her intentions to breastfeed but may not be able to so trying to plan ahead incase, I guess she's seen this thread or similar.

I'm more annoyed about the hidden advertising than the breastfeeding vs formula.

stairway · 05/05/2019 22:32

I thanks GunpowderGelatine never heard of that before. Maybe someone could send one to this Mrs Hinch to wear while using her PP. Then everyone’s happy.

londonloves · 05/05/2019 22:36

Just FYI to all the patronising perfect boobing mamas, I've got three degrees, and an IQ in the top 1-2%, and that didn't magically help my tongue tied baby to latch.

GunpowderGelatine · 05/05/2019 22:38

I don't think anyone has said people who didn't/couldn't breastfeed aren't clever Confused

lastqueenofscotland · 05/05/2019 22:39

@londonloves
What a weird and unnecessary stealth boast

MistyMinge · 05/05/2019 22:42

I have no issue with whether she breastfeeds or not, couldn't give a shiny shit. I do however have a massive problem with the crazy amount of cleaning products she promotes using.

People do not need to be shoving that amount of chemical down their toilet or drain, or, spraying into the atmosphere. Terrible for the environment, ecosystem and for our health. So bloody wrong, and all to earn ££££. It's gone way past being a hobby page. Crazy how many people fawn over this shit.

londonloves · 05/05/2019 22:43

It's a response to all the previous posters implying how thick and impressionable all these formula feeders are that we would be drawn away from magical unicorn breastfeeding by an Instagram post.

londonloves · 05/05/2019 22:44

Cos the reason we can't breastfeed is all about education, right?

TrixieFranklin · 05/05/2019 22:45

Off topic a little but when she posts something from EBay (she does a lot of EBay purchases) she puts #AD.. is it an AD for EBay for for the individual seller/product on EBay?

flamingoflamangos · 05/05/2019 22:46

Can’t remember the name of the poster upthread but I agree wholeheartedly with their comment that those who bang on and on about breastfeeding are enough to put them off doing it themselves.
I bf my dd until she was 9 weeks and then switched to formula. I personally think my baby was constantly hungry on breast milk and the change in her when I switched to exclusively formula was astronomical. I fucking hated breastfeeding.

I LOVE MY PERFECT PREP, can’t imagine a better baby gadget.

If you’re reading this Mrs Hinch - best of luck with your baby. Feed him however you bloody well choose. No one will be talking about how you fed your baby at the school gate in 5 years’ time.

Sagradafamiliar · 05/05/2019 22:47

I get London's point. The answer to low breastfeeding rates is always blamed on 'poor education' and people 'just needing educating more'. Along with the implication that women are so stupid that they would make the most personal decision of early parenthood on an IG influencer's latest freebie. That's without taking into account ability or wants.

Sagradafamiliar · 05/05/2019 22:51

I was too tight to buy a perfect prep if I'm honest, and eyed it with suspicion. I was used to just using a kettle before they came on the market so I stuck with what I knew and it was fine as knowing DS2'a feeding routine gave ample time to make up and cool each feed.

tappitytaptap · 05/05/2019 22:53

My DS1 was EBF til 4 mths, a bottle a day of formula after that and then FF by 8 months, even though I BF for a while I bloody loved my perfect prep, esp when he liked a 5am bottle. Its been sat on the side unopened since DS2 came into the world 7 months ago. He's only ever had breastmilk. Owning it, never mind seeing it on an instagram feed, has not made me formula feed him!

LilQueenie · 05/05/2019 22:54

really OP. Us women must be thick as shit in your opinion. If she jumped off a bridge would everyone else do that too. Hmm

Shootingstar1115 · 05/05/2019 22:57

She’s said on her Instagram that she might not be able to breastfeed because of the meds she’s been on. I really do think people are too quick to judge tbh.

DonkeyHohtay · 05/05/2019 23:12

If this "influencer" has given one iota of thought to the unethical practices of the formula industry I will be exceptionally surprised.

Her current and world affairs knowledge begins and ends with who has promotions on cleaning cloths and disinfectant.

TheBlackDogFollowsHim · 05/05/2019 23:16

It’s this kind of tripe that makes new mothers feel wholly inadequat. Her body, her child ergo none of our business

Bearfrills · 05/05/2019 23:20

No one is unaware that formula exists.

No one is unaware that breasts can be used to produce milk.

Both are acceptable ways to feed a baby.

In my opinion, the "breast is best" campaign has done more harm than good to postnatal mental health and breastfeeding rates. It's a shit slogan and instead of empowering women to make an informed choice it simply became another stick to beat them with.

Instead of throwing good money after bad on pushing breastfeeding, the NHS should be giving balanced advice on formula feeding, breastfeeding, and mixed feeding including the pros/cons of each and information on how to do each one (e.g., how to make up a formula feed correctly, how to check baby is latched properly, and so on). Give women the information without judgement, without an agenda, and then support them in whichever choice they make. The money currently being wasted on "breast is best" could then be invested in early years health and intervention such as funding LTTP playgroups (learning together through play), Health Visitor drop-in clinics, weaning workshops, parenting courses - basically a lot of stuff that used to be run by Sure Start children's centres. An infant is on a milk only diet for six months while the early years development stage lasts five years and has a bigger impact on overall childhood outcomes than what they were fed when in weeks 0-26 so I'd rather the money was going on that.

DonkeyHohtay · 05/05/2019 23:21

Except she's making it everybody's business by advertising on Instagram to her 2.4 million followers.

Isadora2007 · 05/05/2019 23:22

kellymom.com/bf/advocacy/what-do-i-need-to-know-about-the-who-code/

Mrs Hinch. Whether she decides to breastfeed or not is entirely up to her. However being sponsored by a crappy company like Tommy Tippee or should I say Tommy Shittee is disgusting and immoral. They as a company disregard the WHO Code and this directly harms breastfeeding mothers and their babies. Lining the pockets of these companies is a disgrace and Mrs Hinch should be ashamed of helping to promote such a company and be bought by free gifts like the Perfect Prep machine. Perfectly crap, yep. Guess what actually produces milk at a perfect temperature for babies and actually doesn’t carry a risk of mould? Boobs! Yup- guess what, human milk for human babies is sterile and delivered at just the right temperature and with the exact right antibodies for each individual baby. THAT is what Mrs Hinch should be promoting- not taking these gifts and touting for likes at the expense of babies’ health.

Tolleshunt · 05/05/2019 23:30

Completely agree with you Bearfrills. Such a shame the government cut the legs out from under the Sure Start initiative.

stairway · 05/05/2019 23:30

The breast is best was just a simple slogan to make women aware that human milk was better than formula. It wasn’t done to upset mothers. It is very hard for the NHS to promote breastfeeding as everything seems to offend people these days.

Sagradafamiliar · 05/05/2019 23:36

Exactly right, Bear.

Stairway the NHS don't find it too hard, it was thanks to their hardline breastfeeding propaganda 13-14 years ago that I stuck with breastfeeding despite not wanting to and hating it, as an impressionable teenager wanting to prove I could do a good job of parenting. I think I was scared of stopping lest I be reported to someone until a doctor took pity on me and gave me the 'permission' to stop and what a blessed relief that was.

GunpowderGelatine · 05/05/2019 23:37

Quite Isadora but the likes of Mrs Hinch don't give a toss about morals only about money.

I don't like "breast is best" as a slogan but I think some people judge themselves for their feeding choices, no one else judges them
