To ditch luxury brands for Aldi (or other budget) face ctram

Currently use Estée Lauder and other luxury brand face products, have done for years and yet am still ravaged by wrinkles and beset by bags, dropping, age spots, general awfulness. Bloody scandalous really, after the thousands I must have spent over the years I expected to be restored to embryonic plumpness (I didn't really, but every hopeful).
Now on a budget and having to cut back, seems ridiculous to spend £60 on a moisturiser when I could go to Aldi and get one for £6. Currently considering the Caviar range, but not sure if I'm making a mistake I will regret.
Anyone any experience of Aldi creams, and or any other budget recommendation.

Saw a BBC programme a couple of months ago with some reviewed research saying the only ingredient proven to make any difference (to wrinkles specifically, other ingredients can improve moisture levels etc). is retinol. Conclusion was that unless anti-wrinkle creams contained that, made no difference if you spent 50 quid or a fiver.
Been using an £8 retinoid solution since and it’s made a massive difference.

i can still move my forehead - think this a myth about BOtox

MargotMoon · 06/05/2019 11:50

Haven't RTFT but I switched from Clinique to the B range at Superdrug after reading posts on here raving about it. They weren't wrong.

doesthiseemright · 06/05/2019 11:54

What retinoids do people recommend?

Alsohuman · 06/05/2019 12:02

Yes, we get that you love your Botox, @Mata. Not everyone shares your view. We’re all different. I wouldn’t have it if you paid me.

I use The Ordinary retinol 0.2%. You can buy a higher concentration one but better to start slow and work up. It tingles a bit when you use it the first few times and you can get quite dry skin from it so you do need to use it properly. My dermatologist who I go to for something totally unrelated told me to start using it every second night and to give it a full month to see any difference . It really does work. You need to put serious sin cream on by day if you use any retinol products.

I love the aldi caviar creams, breakouts are no more and I frequently get told I look much younger than my age. The day cream with SPF does hurt if I get it in my eyes, I'm just super careful when applying.
Would totally recommend

@malificent7 - ref the collagen creams, I read that too. There is now way those molecules are being absorbed topically. Big con.

squishee · 07/05/2019 06:43

Olay beauty fluid sensitive all the way. About a fiver for 200 ml.

Now serious sin cream sounds like my kind of jollop! What happens when you use it? GrinGrin

JayneyD · 08/05/2019 13:09

@malificent7 has your lecturer mentioned taking collagen orally? I have been looking at this powder -
www.fortheageless.com/products/marine-collagen-powder-uk-planet-paleo - am in two minds whether it is worth it as had heard similar about Collagen in a cream.

Op, the best thing you can do is clean your face properly. Once in the morning and once before you go to bed. I am 40 this year and started getting spots and horrible red patches, dryness with oily areas. Read a post on here that basically said just clean your face. Ashamed to say I never really did. Have never worn make up so I guess I had anything to clean off. Now its a warm flannel, rub on cleanser, wash off with cold water (other side of flannel). Pat dry, then moisturiser. Sunscreen. My skin is so much clearer since I started this. Since reading this I now might get some oils and other bits but I think the cornorstone to good skin is now simply cleaning your face. I can't believe I lived 40 years not doing this properly.

I swear by Simple Age Resist day cream.. Lacura Q10 night cream is good too as are the Lacura Sensitive wipes (green pack). I do use Simple Age Resist wipes too but the Aldi wipes are a good budget option when funds are tight.
