To ditch luxury brands for Aldi (or other budget) face ctram

Currently use Estée Lauder and other luxury brand face products, have done for years and yet am still ravaged by wrinkles and beset by bags, dropping, age spots, general awfulness. Bloody scandalous really, after the thousands I must have spent over the years I expected to be restored to embryonic plumpness (I didn't really, but every hopeful).
Now on a budget and having to cut back, seems ridiculous to spend £60 on a moisturiser when I could go to Aldi and get one for £6. Currently considering the Caviar range, but not sure if I'm making a mistake I will regret.
Anyone any experience of Aldi creams, and or any other budget recommendation.

I bought the Caviar cream earlier. Going to give it a go. Also going to look into the Ordinary - no shops sell it near me so will need to order online, probably need some advice about what to get.

i use lush and ive been told i look no where near 38 but i dont wear make up(never have)drink or smoke and do twice weekly facial sessions

EarlyModernParent · 05/05/2019 22:02

M & S do good skincare. I like their moisturisers a lot.

BiBiBirdie · 05/05/2019 22:03

I love all the Aldi products. Their serum is a bit thin but makes a great primer. And the colour correction pen is a dream for contouring my nose.
Can't imagine spending £50+ on anything now!

I think that, sadly, genetics have the biggest influence on your skin. But other than having parents with lovely skin, the best things to do are:
SPF15
drink lots of water
don't smoke
don't drink alcohol
don't sunbathe
moisturiser with colloidal oats

I've switched from No 7 to Aldi in last few months.

I have dry sensitive skin - can't use Nivea or Olay which really upset my skin - it's all so personal. I've never managed to use eye creams - trigger eczema so use an emollient around the eyes.

I've noticed an improvement - my skin is much more glowing and I need less make-up.

For my skin it seems to be getting as much moisture in as possible.

Will definitely continue with Aldi..

BlitheringIdiots · 05/05/2019 22:26

I switched to Nivea soft cream for face and body about 8 months ago from Clarins and my skin looks fresher and feels softer.

grannieanne · 05/05/2019 22:46

I've ditch the expensive creams and spend the money on microcurrent and ultrasonic facials... i've been having these for years and my skin has never looked better. I'm no stunner but regularly get mistaken for my kids' sister, not their mum (my eldest is 31 !) I'll take that :-) I use Lacura serum from Aldi and coconut oil for a bit of extra moisture.

Genevieva · 05/05/2019 22:56

Ditch the lot. Suncream during the day and wash it off your face before bed.

Don't use too much foundation or other face powders either as they stop your skin breathing.

Botox might work once twice, but it is strangely ageing in it own way - it makes faces look flaccid.

Myofunctional exercises can be anti-ageing.

Hereforthebanter · 05/05/2019 22:57

Seriously, topical face creams are hollow and don’t work. Get Botox.

Hereforthebanter · 05/05/2019 22:58

Bollox not hollow (stupid autocorrect)

Hereforthebanter · 05/05/2019 23:00

Oh and what @grannieanne says about the facials, they’re good too but I honestly couldn’t live without my Botox and the occasional filler 🙂

Sybelline · 05/05/2019 23:01

So many people with terrible botox face.

accendo · 05/05/2019 23:03

Can anyone who is around 40 please post their skin routine using The ordinary products?

Hereforthebanter · 05/05/2019 23:06

@Sybelline

What does terrible Botox face look like?

Serin · 05/05/2019 23:06

I've never used anything but soap and water but my daughter recently got me a pot of l'occitane "immortal divine" cream (stupid name) and I absolutely love the stuff. It smells delicious and I might be imagining it but my skin does feel a lot softer and smoother.

Sybelline · 05/05/2019 23:11

Overly shiny and immobile forehead, exaggerated flattening between the eyebrows, obvious wrinkles on the temples compensating for immobility on the brow, enhanced under eye wrinkles, overly arched eyebrows or eyebrows that seem flattened, drooping lid, drooping mouth.

grannieanne · 05/05/2019 23:11

@hereforthebanter my practitioner says you cant have ultrasound with fillers or botox , is that correct ? Not that I want them to be fair, I'm 54 and have no wrinkles at all, not even a crows foot - luck and genetics maybe - i'm not a skinny bird mind, the fat probably helps :-)

Genevieva · 05/05/2019 23:14

@accendo I don't look a day older than any of my friends who use countless expensive creams and I look younger than some of them. All I do is wash my face in the shower in the morning. Between Easter and October I put suncream on. I wash this off in the evening with cleanser and a warm clean flannel. I have loads of flannels. I don't wear foundation at all.

Eating healthily and being moderately active, so you are slim without being skinny makes a difference.

in case I suddenly wake up and see an old hag staring at me in the mirror Can you be specific about what you mean?

TheABC · 05/05/2019 23:39

What suncream does everyone use? I want to up mine this year, but the high factor ones tend to irritate my face.

Isthisafreename · 06/05/2019 00:13

Nivea soft moisturiser is brilliant. Only negative is, there's no spf in it.

SheisMammyof2 · 06/05/2019 00:57

@TheABC I use either Elave's Sensitive Daily Skin Defense spf45 or LRP's Anthelios XL spf50 depending on which is on offer. I have very sensitive skin and also need something that works under makeup. I find both of these very good.

Honeybee85 · 06/05/2019 05:28

I currently use suncut by Kose, a Japanese brand.
In the past I used Anthelios sunscreen by La Roche Posay and it was fantastic.
