To ditch luxury brands for Aldi (or other budget) face ctram

Absofuckinglutely · 05/05/2019 14:14

Currently use Estée Lauder and other luxury brand face products, have done for years and yet am still ravaged by wrinkles and beset by bags, dropping, age spots, general awfulness. Bloody scandalous really, after the thousands I must have spent over the years I expected to be restored to embryonic plumpness (I didn't really, but every hopeful).
Now on a budget and having to cut back, seems ridiculous to spend £60 on a moisturiser when I could go to Aldi and get one for £6. Currently considering the Caviar range, but not sure if I'm making a mistake I will regret.
Anyone any experience of Aldi creams, and or any other budget recommendation.

I've been using the Aldi anti ageing (red and silver package) day/night cream for a couple of years now, my skins not bad for nearly 50. You've nothing to lose by trying it, it's so cheap anyway!

Anna

Thanks so much! Screenshotting your advice.

NannyMcfanny · 05/05/2019 18:45

I find Body Shop creams really good.
Not as cheap but my skin does notice the difference.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 05/05/2019 18:54

I tried The Ordinary but found what to use when totally confusing and it just didn't do anything for my incredibly dry, red prone skin.

So went back to Figs and Rouge!

Sunsense Daily Face seems to get mentioned a lot but only has a low UVA rating though (three stars). I want the full five stars!

MissMoan · 05/05/2019 19:03

I ditched my Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser in favour of the Aldi brand 'Lacura' version, and I love it. It's a fraction of the price and to me seems just as luxurious and effective.

I live the ordinary, it has really helped my skin and made my rosacea a lot better plus I've had so ma y compliments on how much better my skin is looking. You can email them about your skin concerns and they will send you their recommendations on what to use and when.

Julietee

I had terrible acne as a teen and still break out regularly. The best thing I have found for my skin is an overnight facemask of rosehip oil and sudocrem. I do it about once a week and honest to God I wake up looking like a new woman.

AnnaMagnani · 05/05/2019 19:22

If you want all the stars (and have forgotten this is a budget thread) then you want Heliocare 360. It's fab.

Nutkin123 · 05/05/2019 19:29

The ordinary is absolutely amazing!!!! They do a serum that has a very small concentrate of retinol in it which is known to be good for anti ageing. They sell it on ASOS and it's very decently priced! Would 100% recommend. P.s the Aldi products are amazing, it's exactly the same product as the one they are "copying" it's just got different packaging!

Battie · 05/05/2019 19:31

Ive started to use E45.

My skin feels better than ever before.

beanaseireann · 05/05/2019 19:37

HariboLector
I bought the mini size of the Egyptian Magic.
I wouldn't repurchase. The texture is not far off Vaseline Jelly without the additives.

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 05/05/2019 19:41

I know everyone is posting suggestions but for a really basic moisturizer try the ordinary moisturizing factors. It’s a bog standard tube of moisturizer. I also use The Ordinary buffet serum. Nip fab glycolic pads/tonic depending on the deal in boots. The trilogy Rosehip oil is great For night times

Thisisnotwhatiwant · 05/05/2019 19:48

Superdrug vitamin E range is good.

GreenOliveOrBlackOlive · 05/05/2019 19:48

I’m not so keen on the caviar cream but love the Aldi Soy one with spf20. Also the serum.

But I use a Garnier cream on my eyes.

Freaking0ut · 05/05/2019 19:50

Can I also add how important SPF is from a skin cancer perspective? The spf in your moisturiser isn’t enough, you need a separate facial spf. Having recently been through an absolutely awful time of it with skin cancer on my back, I now am using spf on my face every day, even when cloudy. Wrinkles are obvs important to some, however I wouldn’t recommend a skin cancer scare for anyone Sad

QuestionableMouse · 05/05/2019 20:05

Niacinamide can cause bad redness in some people (makes me feel like my skin is on fire)

I really like www.loreal-paris.co.uk/products/skin-care/moisturisers/hydra-genius-dry-and-sensitive-skin and Simple skincare. Nip+fab stuff is good too but Super drug often have dupes that are cheaper!

My skin feels amazing and looks glowing (apparently - I keep getting compliments from random people!)

I use the aloe water above, a Simple night cream, Glycolic acid pads from Super drug and that's it. I don't wear make up though.

Oh and I use this once a week www.birchbox.co.uk/product/24926

Between that I use cool water and a flannel for cleansing, a suger scrub roughly once a month (literally just granulated sugar dampened and use all over) and that's it really.

SerenDippitty · 05/05/2019 20:14

I use Olay Provital day and night creams. RRP £9.99 but seem to be on permanent half price offer at Morrisons. They are good especially the night cream.

opticaldelusion · 05/05/2019 20:16

I was tempted by the Aldi range but they all have SPF. I use the same moisturiser at night so don't want sunscreen. Nor do I wear sunscreen in winter as I want some opportunity to make vit D. In the summer I wear a hat/stay out of direct sun/use separate sunscreen.

I used to use eucerin but they've changed it. Sob. I use avene now. Cheapish and lovely.

matahairyy · 05/05/2019 20:23

Nothing makes a difference. Botox does

Polarbearflavour · 05/05/2019 20:27

I’ve been using the My Good Skin range from Boots. Reasonably priced.

Alsohuman · 05/05/2019 20:32

A lot of things make a difference without injecting poison into your face. Botox is rapidly going out of fashion. Thank God.

m00rfarm · 05/05/2019 20:34

I tried Caviar as friends recommended it. It is not a patch on the Elizabeth Arden Prevage that I have used for many years.

CleopatraComingAtcha · 05/05/2019 20:34

Tretinoin makes a difference.

matahairyy · 05/05/2019 21:40

Whereas face creams all natural. 🙄
