To think that nautical/seaside decor is weird when you live inland

I don't live near the sea, but local shops which sell home decor always seem to have loads of seaside/nautical-themed stuff. I'm not sure who's buying it.

DH says that lots of people put it in their bathrooms because there's water in the bathroom. It still seems really strange to me as there's not much similarity between the two. I don't want to go paddling in my downstairs loo Confused

I don't actually mind the stuff per se, but I just thought the only people who would buy it are those who live near the coast. AIBU to think it's weird to buy this stuff if you are not near the sea?

I see where you're coming from, but I love the sea and have some nautical things about the house - I live about 100 miles from the nearest coast Sad. I'd love to live by the sea, but my job is inland. My nautical things remind me of the sea and holidays.

I like it. I love being near the ocean and all things sea side. Would live there if I could but not possible right now.

MNetters do seem to label an awful lot of things “weird” and “odd” and they’re usually exceedingly ordinary things.

How far inland is inland?

I read somewhere that wherever you live in the uk you are only 79 miles from the coast...that might be bollocks though

I think it’s weird regardless of where you live! Grin

Always find nautical decor really naff.

I don't think it's any different to say having Scandi decor in a British home, which seemed very popular a few years ago. I have country style cushions, throws, artwork in my home but live in the city. DP and I were born and raised in the countryside so it's a style which feels homey to us.

I dont have any nautical decor...but my friend does

Actually two friends...one has her house decorated with to the beach signs and driftwood and fairy lights...which I appreciate isnt nautical

I have a feeling they will be ok as they live easily less than two miles away...one is less than a mile

I don’t have nautical decor as such but I have a number of coastal themed photographs.

They’re beautiful and I love them.
