Have I poisoned us?

I made lasagne yesterday, we ate it about 7pm.
DD was up at 1.30am throwing up and just now with the other end. My stomach is sore now too & I'm feeling like it's going to hit me soon.
There has been a nirovirus type thing going round locally over the last week, affecting people we've been in contact with.
So have I poisoned us, or is it the bug? Urgh, I hate being ill!

Really hard to say for sure.

Usually if it's food poisoning it will last 24 hours or less. Norovirus usually lasts longer.

Happyspud · 05/05/2019 04:16

I’d say it’s a bug, not the food. Was the meat in lasagne in date?

Bestfootforward1 · 05/05/2019 04:19

Unlikely to b food poisoning unless mince was out of date or not refrigerated.
Hope ur all feeling better soon x Flowers

Meat was properly defrosted but not out of date, cooked through & piping hot.
Looks like it's the virus then. Poor girl Sad

There's not much chance of me avoiding it is there? Yuck...

As long as the meat was in date and cooked through, and your food hygiene was up to scratch it's unlikely it was the lasagne. Probably the same bug as is going round. How old is your daughter?

purplelass · 05/05/2019 04:52

FurrySlipperBoots she's 16

Poor girl. At least she's past the stage of needing to be cuddled and being sick on you, so that lessons the chance of you catching it a bit. Make sure you use different hand towels (and a different bathroom if you can!) and do lots of hand washing with anti bacterial soap. Fingers crossed for you!

purplelass · 05/05/2019 05:02

She's coping really well with it bless her. Only 1 bathroom I'm afraid but I'm bleaching everything as we go along and keeping everything as clean as possible!

Actually I wouldn't recommend using antibacterial soap. That stuff is incredibly hard on skin - and the evidence shows that broken skin harbours MORE germs than intact skin.

Good handwashing with plain soap and water should be sufficient. You may want to scrub the bathroom. Don't share glasses, cups, or eating utensils.

She's slept a bit now so hopefully she's over the worst of it.

If we ate the same thing at the same time and I haven't been ill yet do you think I can now rule out food poisoning?

Food poisoning can kick in really quickly or take days.

Without testing, you will never know if it is food poisoning or a virus. However, if you've been in contact with a vomiting virus and are now vomiting, you can draw likely conclusions.
