Bloody demotion

My employer has decided to demote myself and two other members of staff for no reason other than to save money.

All three of us will still be expected to carry on working the role of supervisor without the title or pay. We will be on the same rate as the other members of staff.

I was sat down and told that I am the only member of staff that smashes sales and targets every month but they need to save a few quid.

This is a multi million pound company.

Is this actually legal? I'm at my wits end and looking for another job

I agree with everything in your post Horsemen, although there may (should?) be wording in the Grievance Policy which protects employees from any kind of negative consequences of making complaints. But I agree that she should be very clear in her own mind about what she wants as an outcome if she challenges this.

I'll say what I always say when it comes to things like this: Are you in a union? if not... join one.

Also, check your contract. If it contains a supervisory role and a salary, then they have to stick to that. If it doesn't and it's something that has become habitual (or you have paperwork about promotions and salary increases) I think they have to keep to that or get you to sign a new contract.

In any case your union can get on to it.

Also - people in the UK need to push for workers councils - that kind of thing has to be approved here in Germany.
