To ask which iPhone

About to upgrade, I know I ‘should’ go Android, but for a couple of reasons I don’t want to.
I use it for calls texts, browsing the internet and taking pics. The camera is my main priority.
The contracts are so much cheaper over 3 years than 2, but my 6s is almost two years old and the battery is fu*#£d so I’m unsure.
Any advice please.
Choices between 7, 8, 8plus, or one of the x’s.
Thanks

The XS Max is fantastic. I'm usually a couple of years behind the curve with iPhones, but took the opportunity to get the latest when my renewal was due just a few weeks after the Max came out. I luffs it.

The XS Max is fantastic.

I'll second that!

I have the Xr and I love it. I also was a few years behind on iPhones, and this one is ten thousand times better than the old ones. And it has portrait mode which has made my photos look amazing!

I have the 8 plus and am very happy with it, wouldn't consider changing it unless it breaks. I usually get whatever isn't the very latest model as you normally get a much better deal, the ones with the newest phone seem to have very high monthly costs and by the end of your contract it won't be the latest phone any more anyway. Nowadays I don't think there's enough of a significant improvement between each new model to make it worth paying more. It's not like when they got much smaller, then started having coloured screens, then you could get ones with cameras, then there were smartphones etc

" And it has portrait mode which has made my photos look amazing!"

It's very clever the way they do that. I take a lot of portraits with my DSLR and I'm used to opening the aperture to f2 or so to get a shallow depth of field, so the subject is in focus and the background blurred. As far as I know, the iPhone does that all in software.

I want an xr. But I think it's just too big. My poor old se is limping along and I need a new phone desperately, trying to holdout to see if Apple release a smaller phone later in the year.

Pharlapwasthebest · 03/05/2019 20:38

I don’t really mind the size, just the other stuff.

I’ve got an XR. Great phone.

Nogravyforyou · 03/05/2019 22:08

@azulmariposa I thought that the XR would be way too big, and I'm finding it fine now. I have tiny hands as well. It is heavy, only realise now when I use someone else's phone.

JaceLancs · 03/05/2019 22:09

Love my XR but I prefer to buy outright and stuck to my £13 a month contract

Nogravyforyou · 03/05/2019 22:09

@Mordred Yep that's exactly what it does. I've taken some beautiful photos since I found out that mode existed ( 4 months after I got the phone Blush)
