Not a very exciting email but to a work client. He's fine on the phone (on the odd occasion we speak) but is so rude and aggressive on email. I just want to write to him, very politely, not copying anyone else in saying - "look, we're all trying to work to the same ends here, can you just be a bit less of a cock in your emails please?"

Or do I just have to suck it up?

Just respond clarifying the information you need.

DO NOT send an email to a client remonstrating them on their communications to you. What you do in real life - is bitch about them with your colleagues.

I'd be hauled over the coals in work for putting something nasty in writing to a client.

Agree with Boomsk. Slightly different but I’m a teacher in an independent school and we get these types of emails from parents (our clients) all the time. Unless directly offensive (which they never are) then you suck it up and deal with it.

In the e.g you provided I'd respond along the lines of:

Yes, I confirm we have your plans - thank you. Could you please send me the actual start dates of the projects as opposed to the planned start dates, so that I can revise the dates on the plans accordingly.

Or whatever it is that you actually need.........

Agree with you both.
