Group b strep

Ansumpasty · 03/05/2019 09:25

Firstly, I apologise that I’m posting this in AIBU. I’m getting desperate and so posting here for traffic.

I’m wondering if anyone has had similar and can offer me a glimmer of hope. I’ve had a mystery vaginal infection for 7 months now, straight after taking antibiotics and using scented sanitary towels (big mistake, I know).
Had so many swabs done and the only thing that ever comes back is group b strep, +++. Taken penicillin for 10 days and swabbed the next week, and numbers were still just as high.

Most medical professionals believe that group b strep can’t cause symptoms, as it usually doesn’t. However, it can, just very rarely. I’m unfortunately one of those unlucky few.

The only time I feel ok is during my period. The rest of the time, it’s always burning or itching to varying degrees, but after my period is the worst.

I’ve just started taking clindamycin vaginal cream incase it’s Desquamative vaginitis. I’m on day 2 and no change at all yet.

Has anyone dealt with this? I feel so alone with it and just need to hold on to any hope that maybe I will get better Sad It’s really affecting my mental health and I don’t know how much more of this I can take.

I suspect that I may have a similar thing, are you getting discharge with it? I've had a yellowy/greeny/ white discharge every day for months, it doesn't smell but enough to have to wear a liner. Had swabs taken, cane back as thrush, treated it but it never stopped. I get intermittent burning in bladder, on outside also and also itchiness (although that has lessesned since thrush trwatment). I've taken AB for 2 urine infections due to the bladder burning but has never completely gone. I have wondered whether its Strep B as know I carry that as my child caught it from me at birth. I'm planning on making another docs appt as whilst I can live with it I shouldn't have to.
My periods have also changed recently and become lighter and more frequent with longer spotting pre periods so not sure if all linked. Anyway, didn't mean to write an essay, just wanted you to know yiure not alone with unexplained problems down there. I hope they can diagnose and treat is soon.

Jeds55, have you had a smear recently? Your symptoms sound identical to mine when I had problems with my cervix. The irritation was simply from the discharge which was a result of my poorly cervix. There was no infection.

OP, I can't help unfortunately. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm assuming you've had STI tests done and been checked and treated for thrush?

Ansumpasty · 03/05/2019 10:14

Thank you for the replies! @Jeds55 yes I am, a yellowey discharge and lots of it.

I’m also due a smear but the gynaecologist said it will be done when I for my follow up appointment as when she tried to use the speculum, it was very sore.

@mindutopia I’ve been tested for all STDs 3 times and the result also comes back as 0 thrush cells

@opticaldelusion thanks for response, I've been googling and no one seems to have these symptoms. I've had a smear since daughter born so within the last year. Can I ask what problems with cervix you had? Did it have name or was it literally an irritated cervix? When doc did swab most recently she said cervix looked fine but there was grey discharge up there?
@Ansumpasty odd that you're getting the yellow discharge too... my doc asked straight away re when my smear was done so good idea to have it. Also wondered whether could be an STI but thinking thr swab would have picked that up. With most recent swab the speculum didnt hurt, I remember expecting it to with all thsts going on up there.

Hi. How you found a cure? I am having same problem. Any advice would be appreciated.

aurynne · 06/05/2020 09:10

I have suffered with antibiotic-resistant thrush for years, and after lots of insisting I finally got a proper test done, which came back with Candida glabrata, which is a particularly nasty strain of thrush which has multiple resistances. i needed a strong combination of antifungals until it finally went. I wonder if this could in any way be what is causing your symptoms? i also got burning in my urethra and it was horrendous. Worth looking into. Good luck!

rj11 · 28/11/2021 16:33

@aurynne do you recall what they treated tou with ?

theoldtrout01876 · 28/11/2021 18:56

Have you been checked for trichomonas. Those symptoms are classic. Im not sure if its tested for routinely in a screen over there but it isnt over here. Its very easy to diagnose, just needs to be collected a bit differently. Its usually checked for in the doctors office here as it does not survive for long. The test is called a wet prep here. It can show up in urine also but again needs looking for down a microscope.

This is a very old thread Smile I completed cured myself with Balance activ BV gel. I didn’t have BV, but it worked anyway. I’m guessing it killed the strep. Hope that helps anyone with the same thing!
