Where do you spend your money?

I always wonder what people spend their money on especially in relation to your salary.

I never buy clothes unless necessary in which case I spend only at ASOS sales or Primark. I am very tight. I try to always take in a packed lunch (I work in London so this is hard!), try not to eat out at restaurants unless it's a birthday, I don't have children just one dog so spend on insurance. Every other penny I try to put towards travelling as this is my favourite thing. I don't have a car but I am about to change this as it's getting a bit annoying.

So where do you spend yours and what would you not go without spending on?

My teens spend all my money- clothes, phones, school trips, sports gear, trainers, food.. I have very little left to spend on myself. No one told me teens were so expensive!

mbosnz · 02/05/2019 18:25

We have a suction pump attached to either pocket - a.k.a teenaged daughters. Between tuition, ballet, violin, horses, clothes, social life. . . . and teenaged girls can definitely give teenaged boys a run for their money in the hollow legs department.

lboogy · 02/05/2019 18:26

Besides household / mortgage then it's probably on my dc . Like you I don't have a consumerist attitude. I prefer to save money rather than spend it

Yummymummycupcake · 02/05/2019 18:28

Most of my money goes on the kids. I don't spend as much on myself as I probably should cos I prioritise the kids. We spend a fair bit on takeaways too as we don't get out that much with having young kids, it's our treat.

Honeypickle · 02/05/2019 18:29

Waitrose

Turquoisetamborine · 02/05/2019 18:31

I spend on the kids. They always needs clothes, shoes, haircuts, toys, books, activities, parties, presents, random things from Amazon
Days out, again mostly for the kids but we enjoy them too.
Around £50 a month on beauty treatments, clothes, hair and makeup.
Around £100pm on eating out
The rest goes on food and petrol.

SihtricsHorseWitnere · 02/05/2019 18:32

My kids! I agree, teens = £££.

Alarae · 02/05/2019 18:32

No kids here, so the majority of my money should go into savings. Unfortunately an expensive holiday and car repairs put rest to that.

Hopefully going to start saving from September for eventual maternity leave. Then as soon as kid arrives and I'm back at work, all my money will go on childcare.

Essentially, I won't have money for a long time!

wildbhoysmama · 02/05/2019 18:35

Same as PP, 3 boys ( 2 teens) who grow constantly, eat constantly and are always up to something that needs money spent (sports, hobbies, trips, holidays, gigs, festivals...). I bought myself a nice pair of trousers in George at Asda today ( pre-kids it used to be Hobbs/ whistles!)- whoopdeedoo.

Oh and holidays, we spend whatever's left on them!

anonforthespies43267 · 02/05/2019 18:36

We spend a stupid amount on food shopping for 2 adults. Costa coffee every day for a latte. I buy the dogs and cats a load of crap quite often. I won’t buy clothes regularly but when I do I buy a lot. Recently baby stuff with DD1 on the way.

Millie2013 · 02/05/2019 18:36

Apart from the keeping roof over head bit...

Running a car
Keeping a pony
Clothing/shoes for DD who keeps growing
After school activities for DD
Lunches/hot drinks at work when I’m not organised
Holidays
Days out (but we do lots of NT and picnic in the park days)
I don’t spend much on myself at all, dye my own hair, rarely buy clothes, but I do like red wine (nothing too expensive though)

PrimeraVez · 02/05/2019 18:37

Just general living costs really... rent, bills, two cars, nursery, nanny, food shopping etc. There’s not one big thing that we splash out on.

AnnabelleLecter · 02/05/2019 18:37

Holidays
Going out and enjoying life

Never been bothered about flash cars so long as its safe and reliable.
Or expensive makeup.

MrsPear · 02/05/2019 18:38

I reassess my wardrobe twice a year and buy anything thing needed then.

As for spending money - it goes on the children. Just this month I have spent £250 on clubs ....

PrincessCessy · 02/05/2019 18:38

Meals out and holidays. I love eating out and that’s where my money goes. I don’t buy stuff anymore

SPR1107 · 02/05/2019 18:39

Nursery fees £££££££

MrsBungle · 02/05/2019 18:40

Bloody kids! Endless food, horse riding lessons, boxing lessons, football, school trips. I rarely buy myself anything (bar alcohol Wink)

Horsemenoftheaclopalypse · 02/05/2019 18:41

Holidays, theatre/events, restaurants, handbags

Still18atheart · 02/05/2019 18:42

Disposable income, gym, Phone, beauty treatments, clothes, costas etc, presents for people, go out once or twice a month, the odd take away. Food shop varies from week to week depending on schedule

Still18atheart · 02/05/2019 18:42

A few uk city breaks a year

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 02/05/2019 18:42

Not all not clothes and am a bit of a homebody.
I don’t like to waste cash on the latest interior fad but I do like my garden so am happy to spend on anything garden related.
Plants, feeds, nice garden furniture, pots and tools are probably my main weaknesses.

Stompythedinosaur · 02/05/2019 18:47

Extracurricular activities are a big drain - swimming, ballet, piano lessons and riding. We have a lot of pets and spend quite a lot of them too. Childcare costs a fortune too, and we spend a lot of fuel as both dp and I do pretty big commutes.

We luckily only have a small mortgage and spend limited amounts on food and clothes.

Mammylamb · 02/05/2019 18:48

Mortgage, bills, childcare, quite a big amount on help round the house (£400 odds each month on cleaner, ironing, dog walker, gardener and windows washed). Some money on clothes / makeup and getting hair done. Lots on taking DS(3) out to classes and activities. Lots of lunches out during the weekend. Occasional gig or theatre trip. Rarely go to bars. We save a bit too. Could save more if we tightened our belt, but we like to enjoy our spare time

WheelyCote · 02/05/2019 18:48
