Where do you spend your money?

I always wonder what people spend their money on especially in relation to your salary.

I never buy clothes unless necessary in which case I spend only at ASOS sales or Primark. I am very tight. I try to always take in a packed lunch (I work in London so this is hard!), try not to eat out at restaurants unless it's a birthday, I don't have children just one dog so spend on insurance. Every other penny I try to put towards travelling as this is my favourite thing. I don't have a car but I am about to change this as it's getting a bit annoying.

So where do you spend yours and what would you not go without spending on?

If its in a bank then it isnt your money anyway.

OnlyRealButterWillDo · 02/05/2019 18:50

Food and things like overpriced Sky tv that we're too scared to get rid of because we are so used to having Sky after 20+ years.

Lazypuppy · 02/05/2019 18:52

I'm the opposite to you.

Shopping, we have 1 takeaway a week and normally eat out once (frankie and bennys or bella italia etc so less than £15 each per meal).

I have my car which i could not live without, plenty of shopping

As you say its what people prioritise

Dh spends hundreds a month on tattoos (he’s working on covering his whole body, apart from his hands and neck which he keeps free so they don’t show in his work suit!) and I spend my spending money on getting my nails done, clothes, eating out - I like to go out for lunch to nice places, and oddly enough paint and decorating stuff as I enjoy decorating. I finish one room and start another, I enjoy it.

And then there’s all the usual crap like food shopping, days out for the whole family, stuff for the dc (one of whom is a teen and costs us a fortune)!

puppy23 · 02/05/2019 18:53

Exactly the same as you, spend as little as possible all year to save up for holidays. I used to spend a fortune on clothes until I realised what a hideously large amount I have - much better spent on a few weeks in the sun!

Fairylea · 02/05/2019 18:53

I should add we are both very much of the “spend it while you can” sort. We’ve had lots of relatives die with vast sums of savings in the bank and we don’t intend to do that..! We don’t overspend but we do enjoy ourselves.

Slazengerbag · 02/05/2019 18:54

Teenagers and a doer upper house

Onceuponacheesecake · 02/05/2019 18:55

Food mostly. Buying unnecessary extras when doing a top up shop, fast food when we're out, eating out or takeaways. Seriously need to cut it back.

TemporaryPermanent · 02/05/2019 18:56

In order of expense:
Waitrose
Therapy
Sex life (hotels, lingerie, Lovehoney)
Ds's piano lessons
Eating and drinking with friends
Books.

AgentProvocateur · 02/05/2019 19:01

Mine all goes on eating out and holidays.

Mammylamb · 02/05/2019 19:10

Loving that Temps priority is spend on sex!

Mammylamb · 02/05/2019 19:13

During the week we all have packed lunches ! And we have only holidayed at DHs parents holiday home for the past few years or visited SIL in France. For us, a holiday abroad with a toddler would not be fun or relaxing

Fairylea · 02/05/2019 19:15

laughing @ sex life spends! Grin

Nnnnnineteen · 02/05/2019 19:16

As per many pps, my teenager. I genuinely had no idea how expensive they are. Of I have anything left, books, eating out and save for holidays.

Margyseries · 02/05/2019 19:18

Love the teenagers Wink

I have no idea. But it gets spent.

Margyseries · 02/05/2019 19:19

Someone tried to tell me kids weren't expensive the other day... maybe because his kids are very young!

Multiple properties so mortgage and rent (dh works away so he rents)

Both my dc's are at uni, we're helping financially.

Cars x4

Gym membership x3

Season tickets x4

Concerts/shows/events, dh likes us to do quite a few a year, making the most of where he lives in the week. Its turned into a hobby for us.

Holidays, we like our trips away and then a main holiday or two.

Then there's food shopping, clothes shopping (although not a fan of shopping anymore), the dog (alrhough he's worth every penny Grin), travel costs (tube, train, petrol).

Me and Dh are not money obsessed, hate waste but not watching every penny unlike some in our family.

My last treat was membership for the royal palaces, 15 months for £53, I'm hoping to get a lot of visits in with that membership Smile

jay55 · 02/05/2019 19:26

Rent, amazon, ASOS, justeat

MingeOnFire · 02/05/2019 19:31

After the usual rent and bills, it's kids, than travel to work (bus pass as don't drive), and beauty treatments on average £40ish a month. Spend far too much in the supermarket too. Don't wear make up, rarely go out or buy clothes. Gave up my hobby when last DC was born. I occasionally spend some money on a kindle book or on 2 online games I play Blush

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 02/05/2019 19:38

Apart from the usual crap like kids activities, car and mortgage. I spend on my hair and nails and beauty stuff every month. Gym membership for both of us. We eat out as a family a fair bit and we go away for little weekend breaks as a family because we rarely see each other during the week. We also save a lot regularly.

tanpestryfirescreen · 02/05/2019 19:47

Roughly:
Mortgage
Holiday
Cars (just bought 2 new ones but will pay off in 2 years and keep for 10)
Spa/gym
Everyman

In that order.

handslikecowstits · 02/05/2019 19:49

Disposable income: local nurseries and garden centres.

bridgetreilly · 02/05/2019 19:50

I don't understand why it's any harder to take a packed lunch to work in London than anywhere else.

Anyway, my salary goes on bills, savings, giving, art classes and materials, holidays, clothes, very occasional meals out. That's more or less it, I think.

RedPanda2 · 02/05/2019 19:54

Anything I take a fancy to! Savings, dinners, I take my own lunch though.
Gym membership, make up, I have a cleanser addiction I pander to. Lots of cash goes on race entries and sportsgear
