I love Kirstie Allsop but...

Let me just put this out there I love Kirstie and I find her very entertaining however, I am watching the latest episode of LLL and Kirstie goes in to a monologue about herself, and how her job is such a huge responsibility... AIBU to think Kirstie is being a bit OTT here? You show people houses, you're not on Surgeons: At the Edge of Life performing brain surgery on a patient who's awake!

She'd be nice if she wasnt so Tory.

PlainVanilla · 01/05/2019 22:52

She is an unqualified, fat lump.
But typifies the UK at present.

floraloctopus · 01/05/2019 22:54

She’s very self entitled

As are many upper middle class privately educated toffs who have inherited daddy's wealth or have large trust funds.

Ghanagirl · 01/05/2019 22:54

@NoHolidaysforyou
YABU for liking someone who is from a incredibly privileged background who is desperate to get married to the father of her two children and continually preaches about putting her man above children.
Whilst he obviously doesn’t give a shit!

HeddaGarbled · 01/05/2019 22:55

Obviously, the divorced woman wasn’t going to wash her dirty laundry on the telly but she’d been 30 years married, family home in Surrey been sold and she’s only getting enough from it to buy a flat, children are adults so no maintenance. I think we can probably guess what was done to her. No wonder she was struggling.

floraloctopus · 01/05/2019 22:59

Just read that article linked to above....so we have a fake feminist and an arrogant big game hunter. I'm not sure the Ganges is the place for them to be honest, maybe a trekking holiday in a selected part of Kenya would be more satisfactory?

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 01/05/2019 23:00

I think it's responsible to take her job seriously, a house is the most amount of money most people spend on anything and making the wrong choice could have a big impact, especially financially. It's only on MN where people can just move at the drop off a hat of the something but right about a property/area

Ghanagirl · 01/05/2019 23:02

She has spouted off about girls forgetting going to university and having babies before they turn 28.
Meanwhile she had her two when she was in her thirties and with a married man.
She’s a complete hypocrite but has a wealthy family to fall back on.

Laodamia · 01/05/2019 23:03

Is she not married to him? I AM surprised at that. Bet it's not her choice.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 01/05/2019 23:04

I just like being able to nosey around other people's houses...

Notanidiot · 01/05/2019 23:14

Why does having different opinions to some MNs make her a witch?

I may not agree with some things she might say or do or have a diiferent different upbringing or not be as wealthy, but that should not inherently make her a nasty person.

Sometimes it seems that MN is not such a liberal free thinking space after all, but just closed echo chambers, and if you don't share certain set views, be gone!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 01/05/2019 23:18

A house is the biggest purchase most of us will make - but she’s only offering advice. No one is forced to buy any of the properties they’re shown. If the show involved the house hunters handing over their money and having the property chosen for them, THAT would be a big responsibility.

I enjoy the programme as I’m a property nerd, but it does irritate me how annoyed Kirstie gets if the participants don’t want the house she shows them. ‘I know they wanted a three-bed house in area X and this is a two-bed flat in area Y, but it’s about COM-PRO-MISE!! Why don’t people have any vision anymore?!’

bpirockin · 01/05/2019 23:31

Personally, I rather like her and have always assumed that she is mocking herself when she has her little "rattles".

ThreeFish · 01/05/2019 23:33

But she is right that university isn’t for everybody, daughters or sons. No benefit in getting a mediocre degree that ends up being 3 or 4 wasted years. I think she was quite right to encourage her child down another path, albeit that she was in a position to contribute to a house deposit.
Would most of us not do the same?

Ghanagirl · 01/05/2019 23:36

@Laodamia
I don’t dislike her but she keeps harping on about putting your husband before the kids whilst she’s not married to the father of her children.
I’m not judging her but wish would shut up about being the perfect spouse.

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 01/05/2019 23:40

'Is she not married to him? I AM surprised at that. Bet it's not her choice.'

Because all women are desperate to marry? Only men are allowed to decide whether they marry or not?

Blankspace4 · 01/05/2019 23:44

She really grates on me.

Excruciatingly smug and i get the impression she’s had everything she’s ever wanted handed to her on a plate.

everythingisginandroses · 01/05/2019 23:46

Tory.

Next!

Ghanagirl · 01/05/2019 23:48

@itscallednickingbentcoppers
She’s on record as she wants to marry the father of her kids but he’s reluctant due to being divorced.

Laodamia · 01/05/2019 23:52

Because all women are desperate to marry? Only men are allowed to decide whether they marry or not?

Tell me, was my comment about 'all women', or was it in fact about Kirsty Allsop, the subject of this thread?

Oh yeah, that's why I'm assuming her not being married to her partner isn't down to her! I remember reading some article she wrote where she said that the key to happiness is agreeing to your partner making all the decisions, and thinking to myself 'what kind of surrendered wife nonsense is this!'.

SrSteveOskowski · 02/05/2019 00:02

I can't stand her. Loathsome smug woman.

Sofagirl · 02/05/2019 00:03

OMG that reminds me of a book I read called The Surrendered Wife and how it was meant to point the way to true happiness

What a load of absolute Stepford Wife rubbish

Gwenhwyfar · 02/05/2019 00:11

"But she is right that university isn’t for everybody, daughters or sons. No benefit in getting a mediocre degree that ends up being 3 or 4 wasted years."

Do you think education is just for jobs then? Don't you think it's enriching in itself?
