To think I shouldn't be THIS heavy??

Lotsofsausage · 01/05/2019 08:22

So to start, I know I am no supermodel. Fairly tall at 5'8, size 14, smaller waist, medium bust. Fairly curvy arse/ thighs but toned. I am fit and strong and exercise 4-5x per week, including strength training.

Now I know measurements and photos are a better gauge than the scales, and muscle is meant to weigh more than fat (but I thought that was bullshit).....I am 14.5 stone! I have a friend with the same body measurements as me and same height and she is TWO STONE lighter.
Can some people just be 'heavy'???

Incidentally I love how this thread has been totally hijacked and OP is nowhere to be seen 😂

RiversDisguise · 05/05/2019 07:09

Fat is essential, yes, and for more important reasons, like vitamin absorption. I don't see low carb as healthy and don't attempt it (but glad if it works for you). Macros-wise 30%carb, 40%protein, 30%fat is decent IMO.

OP realised she'd been caught in a silly lie and scarpered, lol

I'm weirdly overinvested in this thread. Can you tell I have a particularly tedious work report to write this weekend? Wink

TatianaLarina · 05/05/2019 08:30

Paradise eats far less than me...it is NOT natural to starve yourself...your diet is NOT normal

Her diet is absolutely normal for me and the people I know. Just because you personally eat a larger quantity of food doesn’t mean anything. People’s norms are different and as I said slim people generally eat less than larger people.

DieselSucker · 05/05/2019 08:56

@wafflenpffft I don't think that what you eat is excessive, that seems quite normal to me. The world would be quite sad if people were only slim because they eat like birds.

youarenotkiddingme · 05/05/2019 09:09

I'm 5"7, sound similar shape to you. Exercise 2-5 times a week. Eat ok but diet could be a lot healthier if I'm 100% honest!

I'm 13st 5 and despite everyone telling me how much slimmer I'm looking the scales just ain't cooperating 😂

So now I'm going by clothes and what I look like. My scales can do one Grin

HopeClearwater · 05/05/2019 11:51

13 or 14 stone is a bloke’s weight ... in what world can a 5’7 / 5’8 woman think this is a normal healthy weight? I’m 5’8 myself, not particularly slim any more and on the way to 11 stone ... We are losing sight of what’s healthy.

mumlikeaboss · 05/05/2019 11:59

Yes, me too 🤣 I was hoping she'd post a pic for reference... 😌

I have a definite perfectionism tendency in my eating habits, so I don't tend to count macros or calories or anything - I get too obsessive about it. I absolutely still eat carbs, especially fruit/veg/grains, etc. - I suppose by 'low carb' I really mean lowER carb, and in particular avoiding the refined carbs that make me binge.

justrestinginmybankaccount · 05/05/2019 12:22

Elephantscarf

I saw the string test on an obesity program.

I’m 5 10 and weigh 10st 10. In a size 10-12. I have a bit of fat around my middle.

Anyway the string made it. Not much to spare. So I passed.

The obesity show was saying if you are carrying fat around you’re middle that’s visceral fat and same crap will be around your organs too.

RottnestFerry · 05/05/2019 12:52

13 or 14 stone is a bloke’s weight ... in what world can a 5’7 / 5’8 woman think this is a normal healthy weight?

It does make you wonder. 14 stone, or just above, is my 'ideal' weight.

I'm a reasonably well built 6'4 male.

Gwenhwyfar · 05/05/2019 13:19

"The point I was making is that I'm classed as underweight, yet eat lots, albeit don't do any exercise."

It seems to me that you don't eat lots, just that you eat normally, apart from the days when you skip lunch.

OnlineAlienator · 05/05/2019 17:33

I'm a size 12 same height as you and at 11.5 stone I am at least a stone over weight according to BMI.

OnlineAlienator · 05/05/2019 18:51

Kennehora - neil oliver covered it in one of his progs

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 05/05/2019 19:04

That can’t be right rededucator, at 5ft 8 and 11.5 stone your BMI is 24.5 which is in the healthy range.

OnlineAlienator · 05/05/2019 20:58

Aha! Ok - 14st6, 5ft7 - 3 full stone to lose to even graze the top of my healthy bmi. I do a manual job, dont have junk in the house, no sugary drinks even fruit juice, not even sugar in tea/coffee. Dont eat bread, rice, pasta, quinoa as a rule. Go easy on potatoes, dont eat crisps. Suggestions on shifting 3st welcome!!

To think I shouldn't be THIS heavy??
ArgyMargy · 05/05/2019 21:16

DH was 6 foot and never more than 14st even in middle age with a bit of pork. I can't understand how this is considered normal for any woman.

ParadiseInDisguise · 05/05/2019 21:48

OnlineAlienator, you are my double!

OnlineAlienator · 05/05/2019 22:05

Your gross, obese, freak-of-a-woman, double Paradise?Grin

ParadiseInDisguise · 05/05/2019 22:06

Three stone to lose is crazy. Honestly, is it necessary, looking at your picture?

You look good in my book.

ParadiseInDisguise · 05/05/2019 22:07

Your gross, obese, freak-of-a-woman, double Paradise?

Yep, can’t fit in the door either 😂

OnlineAlienator · 05/05/2019 22:10

Theres no way im aiming to lose that 3st, gave myself an eating disorder for 12yrs attempting it. 2 yes maybe, but i think that last one would kill me! But, maybe the peopke that say im kidding myself have a different view/other suggestions.........

HopeClearwater · 05/05/2019 22:58

OnlineAlienator have you checked your scales are correct and not adding weight that isn’t there?

OnlineAlienator · 05/05/2019 23:01

I would love that to be the case but i borrow other peopke's and its been the same for a while now Grin

RiversDisguise · 05/05/2019 23:09

Losing some weight would have so many health benefits.
www.webmd.com/diet/ss/slideshow-five-percent-weight-loss

E.g. lowering risk of breast cancer and Type 2 diabetes, reverse insulin resistance, reduce inflammation..

I found it interesting that every 10lb of extra weight exerts about 40lb extra pressure on the knees and ankles. The feeling of lightness and ease of movement when you lose a bit is so marked and now I see why

Losing weight just means being consistent in eating at a calorie deficit- weighing food, reducing portions, getting adequate protein and veg, tracking calories
