To worry about this noise

I have woken up to what sounds like an air raid noise. I am very near a major airport and it’s been going for half an hour. I have checked the news but can’t see anything. Does anyone know what it could be

i live near one, it goes off randomly, maybe its being tested?

Jenasaurus · 01/05/2019 04:28

Maybe. It stops then starts almost immediately. I have never heard it before and have lived here over 50 years. Seems a weird time to have a test

My neighbours lights have all come on so I’m not alone in wondering what this is. Bit scared to be honest

Check the airports website and local fora/ Facebook site? Where are you?

Jenasaurus · 01/05/2019 04:32

I’m guessing it would be on the news if it was serious

The only new I've read on Gatwick lately was from two days ago from more drones again but this time the news coverage hasn't been so big. But then again you would of heard this noise before.. are you sure it's from the airport

GinTonicIceLemon · 01/05/2019 04:43

If it's still happening can you record/video it ?

Jenasaurus · 01/05/2019 04:47

It appears to have stopped now. I live about 5 mins from Gatwick. It was definitely some sort of alarm. Very similar to an air raid noise. It lasted almost an hour. Maybe aliens have landed.

When I googled it. The only thing it states they are used for is severe weather warnings like tornados but it’s very calm weather and the silence is like a relief now. I can hear the birds chatter ring away outside. I expect they are discussing it too.

I had a Google and apparently some fuel storage places and chemical plants use sirens in the event of an emergency. Could be a possibility near an airport.

Jenasaurus · 01/05/2019 05:06

I read something similar. Just odd as it woke all of my neighbours and myself up I don’t know if we have chemical or fuel depots around but I read the same so could be. Will try and get some sleep now. Oddly my son and daughter slept through it.

My kids slept through our smoke alarm going off. Apparently that type of pitch doesn't wake children! I hope you manage to get some sleep, and get some answers in the morning. Please update if you do!

CanuckBC · 01/05/2019 05:19

That’s a bit scary. I hope you find out what it is in the morning.

ReganSomerset · 01/05/2019 05:23

Very weird. Maybe a strange burglar alarm?

Qweenbee · 01/05/2019 05:56

Could be a nearby burglar alarm.
