Engagement ring resizing

My fiance proposed to me in Paris, I know 🤮 anyway, the engagement ring is gorgeous and I love it, its beautiful however it's too small.

My fiance and I discussed it recently and he said that his mum has offered to pay for it, I said no we need to do it.

AIBU?

You need to do what? Usually the jewellers it was bought from will re-size for free, why is this not possible?

WorraLiberty · 30/04/2019 15:41

What Sanch said.

Although more than about 2 sizes can weaken the claws that hold the stones.

MeredithGrey1 · 30/04/2019 15:41

None of you are being unreasonable, she’s made a kind offer, I assume you’ve said something along the lines of thanks very much for offering but we’ve got it covered. I don’t see what the issue is, unless she is offended you’ve turned her down or something.

SandAndSeals · 30/04/2019 15:42

Congratulations!

My jeweler said they would resize for free (though would prefer I sized down rather than up as it's apparently easier to make it bigger).

Check with the jeweler first before decided who should pay.

StCharlotte · 30/04/2019 15:47

Our jeweller did it for free... both times.

The first time he'd written the size in a very floral style, so what looked like a very dainty "K" was in fact a very sausage-fingered "R". Unfortunately, in making it smaller (the first time), it meant the hallmarks were lost which was a shame is it's Victorian.

Presumably wherever he bought it from should do it?

Anyway, congratulations!!

What a lovely post, nice sick face next to the marriage proposal. Ring to small, your future mil has offered to pay and that’s someone wrong too.

She’s made a kind offer to pay so if for whatever reason (not that I see what it is? ) you don’t want her too then just say “Thanks for the offer mil but we’ve got the money covered”

Damntheman · 30/04/2019 16:05

It's fairly easy to make a ring a size or two bigger and it takes a few minutes. My silversmith brother does mine for me :) making them smaller is the bitch, then you're talking about cutting metal out.

Thank you, the 🤮 face was a little bit of sarcasm as it obviously a cliché getting engaged in Paris. I love this man with all my heart.

Thank you for the replies, he got the ring via family, I was just wondering because it struck me as odd, I can't explain why though.

I will sit down with him and look at all our options. Thank you FlowersSmile
