To ask if you can recommend a prebiotic to give kids before travel to Bali?

We are off to Bali in July and DS has a sensitive tummy. I'm already panicking about gastro-this-that-the-other, or parasites or salmonella!

He takes Biocult sometimes, but that's a probiotic. So I think I need a really good quality prebiotic to start giving him some time in advance. Can you recommend any, please?

Anything else you can also recommend to prevent etc, do say!

I didn't think thats what a prebiotic is. You cant give him a 'vaccination' of Indonesian gut flora before you leave. Just stick to sensible precautions - boiled/ cooled or bottled water, only eat fruit you peel.yourself, dont have ice in drinks, etc. No bloody salads!

I know it's not a vaccination of Indonesian gut flora!

But I've read lots that of advice around giving a child pre/probiotic to strengthen their own gut

Prebiotics help feed the good bacteria that are already in the gut, they aren’t bacteria. Think of them like the food the bacteria need. Can get from fibre food like onions, artichoke, garlic and others (I think sweet potato too).

Probiotics are the bacteria themselves in capsules/drinks/supplements.

Sorry, I can’t recommend any products in particular, I’ve just been reading up on how to feed my microbiome lately... (such a geek) and it doesn’t matter how many probiotics you take if you don’t take care of your gut they won’t survive (if the commercial supplements do anything anyway)

Have a look at the Optibac website. They will also offer advice if you contact them.
