To expect Asda to actually deliver my entire shopping list?

takemetoabeach · 28/04/2019 12:08

Each month, I do a delivery order of heavy/tinned/bottled items. Then top up on the fresh stuff myself when needed.

Today, I've received one packet of cat food. I ordered 6. Are you really telling me that they only have one packet of cat food in stock in the whole store?

AIBU to be annoyed that I now have to do another delivery next week, as I can't carry them home myself?

And we'll ignore the substitution of vegetarian sausages with actual sausages

I won't use Asda for delivery they were consistently hopeless. Once they had a baby event so I ordered £40 odds worth of nappies plus some Golden Delicious Apples. They turned up without any nappies, only the apples and expected me to pay the £2.99 delivery charge for them! Obviously I was on the phone in a rage immediately and refused to pay it.

Whiskyagogo · 28/04/2019 13:03

I've given up on Asda too. They're the worst in my experience. Ocado are my favourite at the moment!

SapatSea · 28/04/2019 13:06

My local Asda are totally useless, try them every few years online but half the order is always missing or wrong. The drivers are surly, half the stuff isn't in bags and the driver's won't let you take the crates in to unpack or help in anyway. Last time I had tried them there was a bag that must have been pissed on, it stank. Just gross. I will never even try to use them again.

I always end up back with Ocado.

Oysterbabe · 28/04/2019 13:08

Get a wheely shopping bag.

Ariela · 28/04/2019 13:09

IMO the substitutions happen because you can change your order so near to delivery time. It means the shop / warehouse bases it's orders on the incoming stock requirements from the orders already placed combined with trends based on how sales in store are going. So everyone that places an order for 6 packs of bubbly to hold their order then changes it at the last minute is it any wonder you end up with incorrect orders?

Emmabryant123 · 28/04/2019 13:10

I've heard so many bad things about ASDA online shopping
We use Tesco and have barely had any issues and subs that we do get are sensible subs

Puddington · 28/04/2019 13:12

I only started using Asda delivery this year and on the whole they've been wonderful where I am. No weird substitutions, only ever had 1 or 2 things out of stock, always arrives bang on time or if anything slightly early, and I almost always get the same delivery driver who is very nice and always stands to have a chat with me for a few minutes before leaving. And those stonebaked pizzas they make are to die for!!

The only real problem I've ever had is I once ordered a bottle of their own-brand raspberry gin when it was on special offer and it turned up with the security tag still on (one of the big ones around the whole top of the bottle so next to impossible for me to remove without breaking the glass). The driver couldn't apologise enough and I was immediately refunded but he said this happens A LOT with people in store forgetting to take the tags off alcohol bottles before packing them up. Was just a shame as I had a week off work and was really looking forward to it!

Livpool · 28/04/2019 13:22

I use Asda and have never experienced a problem. The only thing they have substituted is razors for me, and I got better ones.

Could be an area issue? Some distribution centres are better than others?

RebootYourEngine · 28/04/2019 13:24

When i read threads like this i always wonder how many posters actually know what goes into home shopping.

Supermarkets get no notice of what a customer has ordered until the day it is due. Pickers have to pick your orders within a certain time frame all the while dealing with instore customers.

takemetoabeach · 28/04/2019 13:24

It seems I need to move to Morrison's!

Also, they've recently stopped bringing a printout with them, so you have no idea what your substitutions are until you unpack. You used to get them in a separate bag that you could just hand back if you didn't like them. You don't seem to have this option anymore.

And while we're at it. Please stop packing bread under a bottle of pop, or similar.

@RebootYourEngine but they sent me one packet of cat food - would the other 5 not be on the same shelf?

RebootYourEngine · 28/04/2019 13:29

Arent substitutes emailed to you now?

@takemetoabeach not necessarily. There may have only been one packet left on the shelf. As i said asda dont know what items are needed until it is being picked.

Whiskyagogo · 28/04/2019 13:29

@reboot yes I think that may be why ocado do a lot less substituting - it's all from a warehouse and not a store. Their app seems to be more in tune with stock levels. For example, on my recent delivery, they would only let me add 1 packet of bagels to my basket as that's all they had in stock.

TheFatberg · 28/04/2019 13:30

I've never had any weird substitutions with Asda either - quite often I get a better item than I ordered for the same price. Only a couple of sensible substitutions (of frozen party food) on my Christmas order too.

RebootYourEngine · 28/04/2019 13:33

@Whiskyagogo i think you may be right. Asda are a 24/7 business. There is no way they can have the shelves fully stacked every minute of everyday.

outofnothing · 28/04/2019 13:38

I found Asda to be unreliable and their customer service was terrible when there were any issues.
Switched to Morrison's a couple of months ago and so far so good.

BangGoesThatTheory · 28/04/2019 14:05

Also fed up with Asda deliveries.
Ordered a fresh leg of lamb for Easter Sunday, to be delivered with loads of other stuff on the Thursday before the weekend.

The delivery was very late, though the driver did ring to say and was very apologetic.

Took the lamb out of the fridge on the Saturday only to find its use-by date was the previous day (Good Friday).

Furious! I’ve had some short-life fresh stuff from them before, but never that short!

Phoned customer services and they refunded without question. Also refunded the cost of the late delivery.

Won’t bother with them again. Tesco and Sainsbury’s much better. Don’t have Morrison’s delivery option, unfortunately.

LipstickTaserrr · 28/04/2019 14:25

I have very few problems with asda delivery and use them often. My substitutions are emailed before delivery but they are usually better so I very rarely give them back.

My house has two sets off steps leading up to it and the drivers always say its not a problem when I apologise for them lugging my heavy shopping up.

As with everything it seems to vary in areas. I love my local Aldi and find lidl stressful whereas my friend has the opposite problem in her town.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 28/04/2019 14:34

Your subs are emailed to you- how several times I’ve received it after my delivery which doesn’t help!

I rarely get a full order with ASDA- no butter, no bread, no milk amongst others. Like seriously they have none in the store? And no it wasn’t snowing or snow predicted!

QueenBeex · 28/04/2019 14:42

I get put off using asda as they have (in my opinion) the worst online website. It constantly freezes, crashes and annoys the shit out of me.

YesQueen · 28/04/2019 14:44

Morrison's for me. I've never had a sub in the whole time using them

QueenBeex · 28/04/2019 14:45

I do prefer to go into an actual shop to do my shopping if possible though.

CatchingBabies · 28/04/2019 14:54

This is why I stopped using them. I once had cat food substituted for dog food. Why they thought that was suitable I’ll never know! Any other brand of cat food would have been better. I found myself having to go to the store and get the things they had missed every single week which defeated the object of ordering online. Now I use Morrison’s and have had no problems.

sueelleker · 28/04/2019 15:03

RebootYourEngine
I used to work PT stocking shelves in Asda, and the only interaction the pickers had with customers was if they were asked a question. Otherwise picking was their only job.
