Just wondered what is the most bonkers mumsnet thread you've ever witnessed or came across?

Penis Beaker was awful, it felt like a deliberate wind up to me.

Yeah penis beaker was shit and was the beginning of MN 2.0 (which really is shit compared to pre-penis beaker).

I'm another old timer who thinks penis beaker was a disaster for the site.

There have been many threads over the years that have properly made me laugh but it wasn't one of them

I have heard of the mexican house thief or whatever it's called thread before, but never actually found it. Does anyone have a link?

Thinking again about the most bonkers one was the one where the lady with the flat and garden, her new neighbour took out a window that overlooked her garden and put a door in. Never heard what happened after. Did it turn into Spangran? Can't remember.

There was one a while ago about a neighbours concrete shed and the OP thought somebody was living in it. Something like that anyway.

One mind-blowing thread featured an OP whose elderly mother with MH conditions had discovered a homeless man had broken into her garden shed and taken up residence. Cue dozens of virtue signallers advising her to give him bedding and flasks of tea and soup, the WiFi password, what to put in a welfare pack to give him, all sorts of utter pish.

I used to recognise most posters. I know no one now.

@nespressowoo yes! It was the same as SpanGran. It got tken down if I recall due to the legal follow up (although many people believe it was just a troll)

Does anyone remember GabbyLoggon? Obsessive posting about Kew Gardens and Gabby Logon and her partner. They began one thread called something like, "Allow me and my wife to introduce ourselves, we make our own Christmas cards."

I couldn't work out if they were being intentionally funny or not.

The dinosaur one! That was bizarre, but funny. I joined Mumsnet (and DACWAAD*) because of it.

*Dinosaurs Against Christians Who Are Against Dinosaurs, it's a bonkers FB group but most people there are lovely, if a little salty.

The holidays thread where the OP posted asking for restaurant recommendations at their resort and innocently mentioned her and her DH were flying 1st class whilst their teenage children were flying cattle class (on same plane). The frenzied pile on was immense with beserker posters accusing her of not loving her own children, being totally neglectful and incredibly entitled by expecting 'other adults' (cabin crew) to take care of her (teenage) offspring.

The poor OP didn't know what hit her.

I think Penis Beaker going viral meant loads of new members registering in the hope of finding similar threads possibly. Heading straight for AIBU and not really getting the measure of the whole MN Talk forum.

Then we had the hacking thing when loads of people namechanged/deregged as a security precaution.

Both of these events changed MN and over time you didn't recognise anyone at all.

Okay.. I've been down a rabbit hole since this thread started and just came up for air.

What was the flouncers thing all about? Was that around the same time as penis beaker?

I think it changed the tone of the site, too.

There used to be a sort of core type of poster. Though lifestyles and opinions were varied, there was a definite Mumsnet vibe to everyone.

That’s not the case anymore. It’s hard to describe.
