having a wibble, Manchester Arena related

staydazzling · 27/04/2019 13:21

booked an event that's happening later on this year, happening at Manchester Arena, at the time I didn't think about the events and it later occurred to me, dh and I having a bit of a wibble now. I'm trying to reassure myself that security should be really tight there, and assuming events have happened there since but I'm curious what would everyone else do?

OP posts:

“Having a wibble”???

motheroftwoboys · 27/04/2019 13:24

Go to events, travel etc all the time. Never even think about it. Why would you?

MyDcAreMarvel · 27/04/2019 13:25

Go, why would you not?

Didthatreallyhappen2 · 27/04/2019 13:25

We went to see Brian Cox at the Arena the day before the attack. Since the Arena re-opened I have been there for several concerts, lectures etc.

Security is now incredibly tight. I would, and shall, go again without thinking twice about my safety as I trust the stringent measures put in place.

I hope you have a lovely time at the event.

cardibach · 27/04/2019 13:26

I’d go. It’s no more likely, probably less, that an attack would happen there rather than any other arena, sports ground, shopping centre, station, airport...

Fiveredbricks · 27/04/2019 13:26

Erm... Go. Terrorists rarely attack the same venue twice 🤨

I went to the Lowry the the other night and was shocked at the 'lack' of security checks tbh.

Two guys walked in with big gym holdalls and security didn't even bat an eyelid 😳

gobbynorthernbird · 27/04/2019 13:26

Judging by last night, the worst that will happen is a tram full of prosecco-drunk middle aged women singing Take That songs on the tram home.

Susiesue61 · 27/04/2019 13:26

We’ve just been to Take That there this week, didn’t worry at all. They checked bags and you had to walk through a metal detector

bridgetreilly · 27/04/2019 13:26

Live your life. Don't let the terrorists win.

Fiveredbricks · 27/04/2019 13:27

Oh and "Home, I'm Darling..." Is god awful. For anyone wondering.

TinselAndKnickers · 27/04/2019 13:27

Its absolutely fine - I had a great time at Britney Grin

BettysLeftTentacle · 27/04/2019 13:28

From someone that’s been caught up at the scene of a major terror attack - you have no need to worry or ‘wibble’. Wink

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 27/04/2019 13:28

I've been to a few big events since the Manchester Arena attack (not there, but other arenas and stadiums). Security is generally tighter now, bags/bodies are checked etc before you even get in the buildings.

Go and enjoy it Flowers

MyHairNeedsASnip · 27/04/2019 13:29

Security is tighter than a gnats chuff there. No bags over a certain size, which they will look in, airport security style scanners. Have a good time

WillGymForPizza · 27/04/2019 13:29

Really? With the greatest respect, get a grip OP. Security at the arena itself has always been really tight, and I'd imagine is even tighter now. The bomb wasn't even in the arena itself, it was in the large waiting area that connects it with Victoria Station.

isseywithcats · 27/04/2019 14:07

weve been to manchester arena several times since the bombing and believe me you wouldnt get in with an illegal cigarette lighter let alone a bomb dont worry go and enjoy yourselves

isseywithcats · 27/04/2019 14:08

and on the way out via the train station there is so much security and police presence that no one would get into that area either

TurnOffTheTv · 27/04/2019 14:11

You’re having a wobble about going to an arena 2.5 years after a terrorist attack? Will you never go to London? Or Paris?

isseywithcats · 27/04/2019 14:14

we went to Paris and after the bombings there found out we had been walking past the house where the terrorists lived every day as it was only round the corner from our hotel but we didnt once give any thought to OMG what is the worst thing that can happen in Paris,

PinaColadaPlease · 27/04/2019 14:15

gobbynorthernbird- sorry about that!

gobbynorthernbird · 27/04/2019 14:16

Ha! Don't apologise. Looked like everyone was having a brilliant time!

NannyRed · 27/04/2019 14:17

Sorry, not got a fucking clue what you’re on about.

TurnOffTheTv · 27/04/2019 14:20

Really NannyRed??
The Manchester bombings?

NannyRed · 27/04/2019 14:21

Are you on about Ariana Grande?

Will you never get in a car because car crashes happen?
Never get in a plane because plane crasges happen?
Never crossed a road because road traffic accidents happen?
Not visit Ireland because of the IRA?

I’d never give in to feeble terrorists.

Go outside and give your Village loving head a wobble.

CatchingBabies · 27/04/2019 14:22

Another who has since been to the MEN and it was a busy sold out concert. Security is VERY tight, you have to go through metal detectors to get in and the area where the bombing occurred isn’t open to the general public as it used to be. Make sure you leave plenty of time to get in as the extra security takes a long time. We queued for an hour to get from the car park into the arena.
