To ask why my urine is this colour *TMI Warning*

I have just been to the toilet and noticed that my wee is a very very dark brown, like strong tea.

Don't feel dehydrated, generally I drink loads so even my morning urine is normally clear-ish.

I have got an infected wisdom tooth so taking antibiotics and a lot of painkillers.

Could this be the cause? I am slightly panicking...

Some antibiotics can change urine colour

englishdictionary · 27/04/2019 10:12

Yes it could be the anti biotics. Without knowing what you are on though nobody can actually answer this.

Google the side effects. Or post what it is.

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 27/04/2019 10:12

Antibiotics can do this - I've taken metronidazole in the past and I had the same issue.

englishdictionary · 27/04/2019 10:13

Also not sure why you have a TMI warning for this.

Apart from the fact it's not really TMI, you have posted on the title what it is anyway.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 27/04/2019 10:13

Have you done a poo today? Because if it's pale you may have hepatitis. I know because I've had it.

Otherwise www.healthline.com/health/dark-urine

kateluvscats · 27/04/2019 19:01

Have you got yellow eyes? Gallstones affecting the liver?

greenelephantscarf · 27/04/2019 19:07

look up the leaflet of the meds you are taking.

did you eat any beetroot or lots of carrots?

oldfarmgirl · 27/04/2019 19:15

Are you near a walk in centre or able to access an out of hours gp? Or get an appt on Monday? You could take a sample in. It's probably the anti-b's but one of my DC's had glomerulonephritis after a nasty infection. The first sign of that was dark urine.

Fairylea · 27/04/2019 19:15

It will probably be the antibiotics.

Tartsamazeballs · 27/04/2019 19:16

Done much exercise? Look up rhabdomyolysis.

rabbitheadlights · 27/04/2019 19:24

OP when you say lots of painkillers? More than the recommended amounts? What are you taking and how often?

Fairypiggy · 27/04/2019 19:25

If you are on metronidazole that can change the colour of your urine.

Wifeofapostie · 27/04/2019 19:28

If you have done any kind of exercise in the last couple of days, I would consider the fact it could be rhabdomyolysis. I don’t want to worry you too much but please call 111 for further advice.

OhWifey · 27/04/2019 19:30

Have you eaten a lot of beetroot?

FirstAndLastAndAlways · 27/04/2019 19:55

Is it definitely the pee, and not dark discharge or old blood mixing with the pee? I've had various gynae issues which have caused me to at least momentarily flip out because my urine wasn't the colour I expected it to be, would turn out to be gynae related.

wigglypiggly · 27/04/2019 19:58

What painkillers are you on.

ThunderOnlyHappens · 27/04/2019 19:59

Sometimes brown urine is a symptom of a UTI bc blood in the urine can make it brown. This is not to be panicked about but i would perhaps contact your GP on Monday if if carries on, or go to the walk in centre if you have other symptoms

CaitlinsYellowSocks · 27/04/2019 19:59

I had this and it was hepatitis. Hopefully it's not but please get it checked out. I didn't and it ended up being quite serious.

googlegoals · 27/04/2019 20:08

Have you eaten beetroot?

thebelljars · 27/04/2019 20:54

TMI warning because I was going to post a pic.

No I haven't done any exercise in the past week, I've felt too ill! I'm taking strong codeine, paracetamol and ibuprofen but I'm careful about recommended doses.

I'm on metronidazole so it could be that - have just looked at the leaflet but it doesn't mention urine discolouring - google brings it up as a side effect but I'm not on flagyl. I'm unsure if brand of antibiotic makes any difference.

I think you should call 111, looks like cola wee to me

IwillrunIwillfly · 27/04/2019 21:07

Flagyl is the same as metronidozole. It could be the antibiotics but you really need to get checked out just in case it's not.

bonzo77 · 27/04/2019 21:07

Flagyl is brand name for metronidazole. Like Nurofen / ibuprofen.

Amanduh · 27/04/2019 21:14

Metronidazole always does this for me. And makes me feel bloody sick!

thebelljars · 27/04/2019 21:16

I haven't had an upset stomach, in fact the opposite, I'm quite constipated presumably because of the codeine.
