AIBU false negative pregnancy test and bleeding?????

Does anyone know if women can get false negatives AND bleeding, and if so, how long this lasts?

I had IVF (actually ICSI, but it's not much different) a few weeks ago, started having what seemed to be a normal period 2 days before my official test date, tested on the test date and a couple of days after (clinic's test then a Morrison's test) and both were negative.

I know it's highly unlikely that I'm pregnant but then I've also read that 9 out of every 15 women get false negatives until 7/8th wk of pregnancy. I also know that women can menstruate (or appear to, bleeding-wise) throughout pregnancy.

I've started eating brie again, etc, but just not sure about alcohol??? Also wondering if I should go swimming as I was advised to stay away from swimming during the 2 week wait?

When I had ICSI the clinic did a blood test. Did you have this or just a normal pregnancy test? This is probably why my clinic does blood tests to avoid any uncertainty.

I know how you feel, and I hope you get your baby.

I’m sorry I can’t help on the rest. I will just say that I didn’t do anything differently in the two week wait. I don’t drink anyway, so that wasn’t a factor. I did have slightly less hot baths, but they told me to carry on as normal.

it was a urine test (thanks for replying btw, and hoping I get my baby xx), but I have heard of a case where even the blood tests were negative for quite a while (and the woman was pregnant with twins!!!)

No it’s very very rare. Certainly not 9 in 15 women who dont get a positive test until week 7/8. Don’t know where you read that but I’ve yet to meet a single person who was negative beyond their usual cycle period due date. I think you can be certain you’re not pregnant. Sorry about that.

9/15 have false negatives into the 7th/8th week?
That doesn’t sound right at all. For a start, there’s a huge difference in hormone levels between 7th and 8th weeks.

You tested negative, and your period appears to have started at around the expected time. So (as a fellow IVFer especially) I’m sorry that it doesn’t sound like you have become pregnant Sad

If you started to bleed two days before test day, surely you’re past the 2WW period now?

I would advise an extra sensitive early test - one with a digital result to stop you obsessing over lines. Just to stop you thinking about it.

I hope I’m wrong of course, but it doesn’t sound likely x

The false negative rate is about 1 in 20, and that's with the least reliable tests.

The chance of a false negative from a blood test would be even smaller.

hate to say it, but the test is correct, you`re clinging onto a hope there.
