So i work in a pub, i was serving a family of four (2 kids between 6 and 10ish) the kids were off playing in the play area when i bought over their meals. The kids both had chicken nuggets and chips (no veg) and as soon as i put the plates down the mother poured salt all over both of the kids meals without even asking them if they wanted it!!!

Why? Why why why would you ever do this?! Why do the childen need any extra salt to an already salty meal? She didn't even give them a choice just poured it all over the meals without even asking them. They dont even get a choice in whether they get an addrd salt diet or not. Id never even dream of putting any added salt in mine or my children food. Also any salt for that matter, I wont buy any high in salt foods.

Sorry this is a rant just upset me the children didnt even get a choice in whether they eat salt or not. Start as you mean to go on i suppose...

Like do people not realise what salt can do you work in a pub for fucks sake.

Many actual abuses occur as a result of alcohol. Do you weep over them as well?

Typical middle class angst over non event Grin

ILoveMaxiBondi · 26/04/2019 12:30

You hide salt from an adult? What else is he not allowed?

HoraceCope · 26/04/2019 12:31

perhaps they go crazy themselves given the chance, and she was preempting that.
perhaps she was eating them too?

hsegfiugseskufh · 26/04/2019 12:31

middle class angst? or concern for a child?

presumably op doesn't give a shit about adults eating salt, and presumably she doesn't serve kids pints either.

I eat a lot of crap, admittedly, do I feed it to my child? no.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 26/04/2019 12:32

I’m just imagining OP questioning all her customers. “You do realise that’s your third glass of wine tonight, don’t you? That’s binge drinking that is” she must be a hoot at work.

Sabrinatheteenagebitchx · 26/04/2019 12:32

@LilFGS im sure if that was the case there would be healthier food options to get salt from that chicken nuggets, chips and a side of salt.

She doesn’t allow her partner to have salt.

Vinorosso74 · 26/04/2019 12:34

Sounds a bit odd but I don't know I'd be disgusted. Mind I hate salt added to food so would be disgusted if someone put it on my chips!

Sabrinatheteenagebitchx · 26/04/2019 12:34

Like @PlantPotParrot said im thinking of a child intake of salt which was not asked for by the child.

Not an adult who is choosing themselves to drink.

@lilFGS I knew I'd seen someone on here before mentioning the need for salt in their children's diet.....saved me a lot of searching!

hsegfiugseskufh · 26/04/2019 12:35

no.. adults who she doesn't care about (I wouldn't want my partner eating loads of salt and dying at 50 either tbh!)

Sabrinatheteenagebitchx · 26/04/2019 12:36

@ilovemaxibondi i dont literally hide it i just put it in the cupboard not out on the table. If he really does want it he can get up and get it but like i said its out of habit so he never raly bothers

Remind me not to come to your pub with my kids as I would not like to be judged when paying for service! Also, disgusted is spelt like that.

whitesoxx · 26/04/2019 12:37

You're exaggerating. 5 seconds of fast flowing salt would almost empty the container.

It's none of your business either. Dishes served with a helping of I'm better than you. Nice

MitziK · 26/04/2019 12:37

I grew up with zero salt on food. Didn't need it, apparently. Bad for you.

I hated most food. Had somebody taken the absence of flavour into account, I'd probably have eaten a lot more - and it would make sense for an adult to control the amount.

Strangely, as soon as I discovered sea salt flakes, I used them - tiny amounts, but it still takes a bland, nearly tasteless item such as a chicken nugget or chip to something edible.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 26/04/2019 12:37

When I was that age my mum would a) I known whether or not I wanted salt and would put it on for me if I wasn't at the table (although I think the issue here is that the mum added loads) and b) know that I would not eat veg with a "treat" meal and there was no point even trying. She could just about get me to eat steamed carrot batons a few times a week and I had loads of fruit instead. You have no idea what they eat the rest of the time.

I'd be mildly disapproving at most. And probably wouldn't assume that what kids eat off a pub menu is their usual diet.

SihtricsHorseWitnere · 26/04/2019 12:37

Is the other half of your soul the judgy sneery gossip cleaner who's aghast that her clients use surface wipes and starts a huge thread on the internet to slag off other people?

You hide salt from your partner?

FFS, it's not fucking crack cocaine!

You work in a pub serving people booze and start a huge thread to have a dig at the clients who are paying your wages.

Hope your boss finds out about this and get rid of an employee that can't keep her tongue in her mouth when it comes to the punters who keep the place in business.

QuestionableMouse · 26/04/2019 12:39

Eh not something I can be arsed getting worked up over to be honest.

If I'm out I'll often chuck some salt on my food, especially chips but rarely use it at home.

I'm also sure I remember reading something that said salt isn't actually the devil it was made out to be and has little effect on blood pressure.

notsosureaboutthatthough · 26/04/2019 12:39

Oh for Fucksake

Save your energy for the kids in the world who don’t get fed.

Mabellavender · 26/04/2019 12:39

Maybe they would’ve put salt on it anyway so she did it for them, or maybe they put too much on. What’s it got to do with you?

I use salt in cooking, it’s there for a reason. It only tastes salty if you use too much, otherwise it just enhances the flavour of everything.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 26/04/2019 12:40

Disgusted, really? All you saw was a moment of her life, you have no idea what her kids eat normally or what they will eat when they go out for a meal.
Really, if you need to virtue signal then that's fine, but if you want to feel really superior then you need to scrape up some better material.

Cliveybaby · 26/04/2019 12:41

Sorry this isn't relevant but I just find it so funny this thing that English parents have about salt... in hot countries you have to make an effort to get enough salt in your diet, or sweating a lot will give you low blood pressure!
(remembering being given lime juic in India with sugar and salt in it...)

VladmirsPoutine · 26/04/2019 12:42

You are disgusted. Ok.

Cliveybaby · 26/04/2019 12:42

@QuestionableMouse
kind of cross-post!

QuestionableMouse · 26/04/2019 12:42

If you search salt and blood pressure there are a few results saying the same thing. Some salt in the diet is not harmful and may actually be required for good health!
