To think this is a sign of misogyny

A man I know, divorced and in his early 40s, said to me recently that he likes women who are “virginal”.

He said one of the reasons he had a bad sex life with his ex-wife (which was one of the reasons they divorced) was that his wife had been “quite promiscuous” before they met, which he didn’t like, and he thinks that’s a reason why he went off sex with her after a few years.

I can’t really explain why this didn’t sit well with me at all - I feel like it’s a sign that he could be misogynistic. Do you agree or is it perfectly valid for him to have that preference?

That sounds really bizarre for a man in his 40s to say and definitely misogynistic. He obviously has a low sex drive or is rubbish in bed. Most likely it is a cover story for the real issues in the relationship

Ah sorry just read last page of the thread where you confirmed low sex drive/other issues in the relationship. I wouldn't consider going out with him OP

He has a Madonna/whore complex & this stems from deep seated mysogyny. Women are either ‘pure’ or ‘whores’. A woman who enjoys herself sexually, is sensual, knows her body & what she wants is derided.

Define promiscuous - I bet his ex would have something to say about his views.

I agree blokes like this are insecure & fear being compared to someone else better in bed. They think it’s ok for them to sleep around to get experience & add notches on their bedpost (presumably with all the whores) then settle down with someone virginal & of better stock.

Gross.

He a joke of a man. She probably went off sex because he was crap at it and she’d had much better sex with other men.

He would raise too many alarm bells to count!

Jiggles101 · 26/04/2019 07:33

Do you challenge him on his disgusting comments or do you just nod politely?

This man is the very epitome of everyday sexism and misogyny. He may be really good looking but you would need your head examined to date him! I couldn't even bear to have him as a casual acquaintance 🤮

A sign? More like a bloody great bill board reading Misogynists Are Us.
