Smear test advice

So, I had my first smear test 5 weeks ago (nearly 6) and I still haven’t had my results yet, but my friend who went to the same doctors to have it done, had one 2 weeks later than me and she has had her results back already and I’ve heard nothing. I don’t know what to think and it’s really stressing me out, I’ve rung the doctors and the very rude receptionist just told me that there is a back log. Should I be worried?

I had one 6 months ago and still haven't received my results. I then later saw in the news that there had been a problem getting results out.

I called up my doctors who got a nurse to call me and tell me my results.

I'd call up again and explain the situation. You should have found out weeks ago back log or not.

I’ve had many smears OP and sometimes have had to wait as long as you have, all of them have come back normal.

I’m no expert but I think if there was a problem you’d hear sooner rather than later. Can you ring the health authority you had it done under instead of your surgery?

Hope you get your results soon.

You don’t get results, unless there’s an issue.

@allthegoodusernameshavegone I've had 3 smears, got results everytime and there's never been an issue.

No news is good news IME

Sorry 4 smears and got results everytime apart from the last and the nurse was surprised I hadn't received them.

Is that just in your area? I’ve always had a letter back confirming normal results.

Do you have the Patient Access app? The results of the HPV test should be on there.

Don’t think there’s much rhyme or reason to it. I was told 4-6 weeks this time when previously it’s been 3 weeks at worst!

itbemay1 · 24/04/2019 22:03

You should get a letter, I'd ask for a phone call from the nurse if you're anxious. It's a 3 week wait in my area, SE London.

Me and my friend had one on the same day 3 years ago. Her results came back all clear a week later and my results took 3 weeks and came back with dodgy cells.
Very recently I was waiting over 2 weeks for smear results and they came back clear.
I don’t think there’s any rhyme or reason for the time frame.

So m my results came back yesterday and they found evidence of HPV and there was not enough cells collected to test for abnormal ones so I have to go back and have another in June :(
