Been having pelvic pain for a while, pain during sex and recently bleeding between periods. Went to the dr and they said its a pelvic infection. They could see the infection on the ultrasound and also whilst doing the swabs. Could it be anything other than a STI?

Yes it could. Bacteria can be introduced into the vagina from a number of sources. Something as simple as wiping from back to front can introduce bacteria

An STI can cause a pelvic infection, but a pelvic infection can be caused by lots of things- any sort of procedure (like having a coil inserted), previous pregnancy, exposure to bacteria from the rectum, bacterial vaginosis that has gone untreated and asymptomatic, etc. It’s definitely not necessarily an STI, STIs that cause pelvic infections are easy to test for and treat, so hopefully they swabbed you. If not, just go get tested.
