Had a debate with a friend about this and wondered what are others thoughts? I found a gift card whilst on holiday. Picked it up and handed it into customer services. At the end of the holiday they have it back to me as no one had claimed it. I checked and it has £40 on it. Friend says don't spend it as it will be traced... husband says spend it as how would they know? I don't know who to go with???

As you did the right thing and handed it in and the person whos it was didnt bother to claim it back then lkie lost property at the police station its yours spend the money and enjoy treating yourself to something you would not have bought otherwise

Yanbu because you handed it in to reception where no no on claimed it. But something nice & lovely and treat yourself. Consider it one of life’s little windfalls. Smile

What's the card for? You could for example spend it on food for a food bank if you don't want to spend the money on yourself. Or you could just consider it good luck and treat yourself.

If you're worried it will get traced back to you then I am willing to try spending it and see if the owner comes hunting me down.

There will be hundreds, if not thousands, of these things lost all the time, there are not the resources in the company who sells them to trace them all. When you spend it unless you use a debit or credit card to pay towards the cost there is little chance it can be traced to you anyway.

You have done what you needed to try to trace the owner - handed it in. It wasn't claimed, enjoy your handbag.
