To ask how you clean your car if you live in a flat?

Just that really. I've had my car around 4 years and can count the amount of times I've cleaned it on two hands. Lugging buckets of water downstairs, having to go back up three flights of stairs again to refill / clean the sponge is just a pain in the arse to clean it on the outside, and that's not to mention the inside which is frankly disgusting despite my halfhearted best efforts with a handheld dust buster and wipes. Mud and debris all over the floor. Dirt from DC shoes on the back of the seats. And then there's all the crap from nearby trees which seems to be permanently embedded in every crevice... and I'm fairly sure there's moss growing in the door seals which a toothbrush just isn't shifting.

If you live in a flat and have a car, how - and how often - do you clean it?!

Just take it to a garage that has a jet washer?

TanMateix · 22/04/2019 19:28

I do not live in a flat but I take it to a pressure washer place where they do all the work for around £6

Lazypuppy · 22/04/2019 19:28

Take it to a car wash for about £8

Floralnomad · 22/04/2019 19:29

I’d do the same as I do now , take it to the local hand car wash where they do various options from £6 .

CupcakeDrama · 22/04/2019 19:30

My sister lives in a house and has never washed her car herself. she goes car wash

Handofglory · 22/04/2019 19:31

I don’t live in a flat but haven’t washed my own car in years. Just take it to a local hand wash and they do a fantastic job for a fiver. Valet for £12

pastabest · 22/04/2019 19:31

You take it to a jet wash/ carwash like everyone else does whether they live in a flat or a 4 bedroom semi detached with a bug drive.

Only middle aged men who are trying to avoid their family regularly wash their cars painstakingly by hand these days. It's 2019 not 1999 Grin

trinity0097 · 22/04/2019 19:32

The people working out of the Sainsburys car park do my car, and live in a house with a drive!

MulderitsmeX · 22/04/2019 19:32

Car wash, no other way!

coco123456789 · 22/04/2019 19:33

Same here - hand wash place does inside and out for £12, proper valet for £20. When you think how long it would take to do it yourself and to buy all the equipment, why would you do it yourself!

DisplayPurposesOnly · 22/04/2019 19:35

I don't live in a flat, I just can't be arsed.

Once in a blue moon, I go to a car wash. The inside used to get vaccumed annually when the car was serviced, but ive changed to a cheaper garage who don't include that kind of friper, so I'll have to DIY at a petrol station vaccum.

Not keen on cheap hand wash places, as I worry about (at best) the staff not bring paid nmw, or (at worst) people trafficking.

Rottiemum4102 · 22/04/2019 19:35

I do not. I am lazy, I pay the nice people at the garage to do my car Grin

ScreamScreamIceCream · 22/04/2019 19:37

Take it to a car valet service at a supermarket while you do a large shop. In between just clean the windscreen if necessary, and wipe bird crap off it with wet wipes.

LittleBearPad · 22/04/2019 19:37

... and I'm fairly sure there's moss growing in the door seals which a toothbrush just isn't shifting.

You are joking right...

Go to a car wash / jetwash

TheseThingsAreFunAndFunIsGood · 22/04/2019 19:39

I've never wanted my car by hand but equally there's no way I'd spend £8/12/20 (!!!) on a carwash... Lots of places have a DIY jet wash facility where you put a few £ in and get options to wet, soap, scrub and rinse (each timed), takes 5 mins and change from a fiver! Grin

supernintendochalmers · 22/04/2019 19:41

Extension lead and hose out of the window. I am 2 floors up.

stucknoue · 22/04/2019 19:42

I pay £11 and they clean it inside and out.

Yabbers · 22/04/2019 19:55

When I lived in a flat I used the jet wash and vac thing at the garage. I don’t really do it now I have a house with a drive, I tend to use the auto valet at the shopping centre.

Yabbers · 22/04/2019 19:57

That’s rather unfair. DH does both of ours when it’s a nice day, just for something to do outside and mostly DD is out there with him “helping”.

greenelephantscarf · 22/04/2019 20:01

car wash or valet

snarfblatt · 22/04/2019 20:03

I didn't realise so many people used car cleaning services! I thought it would be much more expensive than that. My dad always cleaned his car by hand and I hadn't owned one before so didn't realise this was something people did. I've never seen one you can do yourself though... will have to look out for that! Sure there must be something like that given I'm in London!

Thanks for the responses, genuinely taken aback. I thought everyone just cleaned cars by hand and services were just for wealthy or lazy people Blush (that's embarrassment not judgement!!)

ive never known anyone to wash their car by hand 🤷‍♀️

madcatladyforever · 22/04/2019 20:05

Clean my car? haha I don't have time for that. I wait until the council are thinking of towing it away because it looks abandoned then take it to be valeted or to the car wash.

greenelephantscarf · 22/04/2019 20:06

it's illegal in germany (unless you go to a self wash place which is just as expensive as a drive through car wash)

SoyDora · 22/04/2019 20:07

Another one who has never washed my car! I have it done by a service that operates in Tesco car park, £12 inside and out including wax/polish.
