I want to hear about your good or bad encounters with a celebrity/famous person please! In the late nineties I met the chef Ainsley Harriot at a London train station when I was cueing to buy a ticket! I was very excited about this and told him I loved the show Ready Steady Cook which he was on at the time, he was really nice and chatty but I didn't get his autograph though! More recently about 2 years ago Ray Winston was sitting at the table beside us in a Chinese restaurant but we didn't get to speak as he was engrossed in conversation. I nearly forgot Todd Carty aka Mark from East Enders used to use our local newsagent in the morning on way to Elstree again in the nineties, he was always very smiley and drove a little MG!

A friend of mine worked in a massage/lapdancing place and Zack Dingle was always in there by himself. She said he gave her the creeps and in real life still wears a flat cap all the time.

Age 6 or 7 Play School came to my school. The saintly JOHNNY BALL and the lovely Carole Leader (I think!) Were the presenters. Johnny ball was speaking to me but my mum was dragging me out of school!!

Paul ince (now old, footballer) went to my senior school. Only ever saw him outside the heads office cos he'd been a shit. Which he really was!

Saw Rowan Atkinson on a school trip to London - can't remember what the trip was for or where we went, but he was lovely and was in amongst all us kids saying "there's so many of you all, why are you here"?!!

Frank Bruno used to live in the same place as me. Walking home from the station one dark night I went round the corner and literally bumped into him. Didnt realise who it was initially, but it was like walking into a war tank!!

Saw Karl Howman in Costco one day. My gobby mate was saying oh is that that bloke off the telly and gawping at him. I kept my cool, said, yes shut up, don't draw attention to him and got the BIGGEST most gorgeous smile..... phwoar!!

Meet and spoke to Richard Digance in Windsor, nice bloke.

Fairly sure there's more, but brain on go slow Grin

leighb23 · 23/04/2019 21:04

How could I forget BASIL BRUSH?!!!!!!!!!! Sang with him at a choral society Christmas "do".

Tavannach · 23/04/2019 21:04

I was one of a group of school governors that were invited to 10 Downing Street when Tony Blair was Prime Minister.

I didn't realise how small TB was until a flunkey brought in a red box for him to stand on so we could all see him as he made his speech!

Tosh! Tony Blair is 6ft tall.

Danny Boyle during the preparations for the 2012 Opening Ceremony, very nice, kind and extremely patient. To be fair, the whole creative team were very nice, no one shouted or lost their patience, which probably was a hard thing with several thousand amateur volunteers.

Davina McCall and Paloma Faith at an event in Birmingham, Davina was lovely, down to earth and very funny. Paloma Faith had quite an attitude and did not want to be talked to by anyone but her team.

William, Kate and Harry two years ago when I was volunteering at the London Marathon, lovely and polite, seemed genuinely happy to be there.

Richard E. Grant was in front of me in the queue in my bank (that was before the Oscar nomination), he seemed very nice and "normal", didn't accept the special treatment offered to him.

At an immersive show type of thing I was volunteering at:

Georgia May Jagger: Very humble and genuinely surprised, looked very young
Dustin Lance Black: Very informed and intelligent
Suki Waterhouse: Very DYKWIA, had a go at me for preventing her from falling on her pretty face
Boy George: Almost unrecognisable without his make up

"Just" seen:
Sophie of Wessex, walking up the hill with her son in my corner of SW London, I had a is it her, is it not moment, but the security detail gave it away
Bill Nighy while my sister was visiting me and about five minutes after I had said I never recognise anyone.
Alex Kingston was filming an ITV drama outside my office building a few years ago
Domnhall Gleeson filming a few weeks ago
Helena Bonham Carter in Belsize Park on Saturday, she looks quite young and smiled at me. Took me a split second to realise who that was.

Allegedly there are a quite a few "celebs" shopping at my local supermarket, but I usually don't pay any attention to anything else than getting in and out of the shop as quickly as possible. I also suspect, they would not go shopping during the after work rush hour.

I have to add, I would never ask anyone for an autograph unless it was at a premiere, at a theatre stage door or otherwise clearly "at work". Famous they might be, but I believe they also have a right to privacy.

MadisonAvenue · 23/04/2019 21:12

@BearSoFair me and my son went to a book talk that Frank Turner did four or five years ago at the Glee Club in Birmingham. It was wonderful enough as it was being a tiny venue as he performed too but at the end he shouted out that if anyone wanted anything signing or a photo then he'd be happy to hang around once he'd packed his stuff away and quite a large queue formed as you can imagine. I got a lovely hug and a photo.

Mylittlepea · 23/04/2019 21:17

OP - I met Ainsley a few times in the early nineties when he was an agency chef before he got famous. I was doing my 6 month Uni placement in hospitality at Lords Cricket ground. He was hilarious and an absolute gent. He used to sit me on his knee (sounds weird but wasn’t) and tell me the funniest jokes. He had a one liner for everyone.

Also met a few cricketers in that job. Got a signed cricket bat signed by most of the England team and then stupidly sold it a few years later on eBay cos I needed some cash.

Met Take That when I worked the backstage bar at Wembley arena circa 1993. - served Robbie a drink, really nice fellas. The girls screaming outside the exits were something else.

Tried to give David Essex (he wasn’t with his wife Paul McCartney at the time Grin ) a big fat kiss out side the theatre stage door after boogie nights. His security soon pushed me aside Blush

Sat on a table next to James Corden in a bar in Leicester Square but I didn’t dare say hello....

wonkylegs · 23/04/2019 21:18

Thinking about it i've met a few
whilst working in LA, I met through my job
Janet Jackson
Seal
Chad Smith & Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers)
Mario Testino & David LaChapelle (photographers) - David was incredibly rude to work with

Besides that I have met
Ronaldo (well I walked slap bang into him and didn't realise)
Shearer
Jeremy Guscott
Grant Nicols (Feeder) - invited me to a concert, was very nice
Jack Charlton
Declan Donnelly - stole my chair in a pub, but did apologise when he realised
Pete Postlethwaite - he held court one night in my favourite pub after a show at the theatre down the road, he was awesome.

I have weirdly also been sick on John Rocha & John Major (separate occasions)

popsadaisy · 23/04/2019 21:23

My friends OH is a camera man and says that Phillip Schofield is an absolute arsehole!! This made me so sad when she told me! It also makes me sad to read Holly is a twat too :( I just can't see it when I watch them on TM they both come across as so lovely!
I have met Jake Quickendale (z lister!!!) he was so stuck up and completely loved himself which also made me sad because I thought he was lovely on the jungle!
Has anyone ever met holly and had a good experience?! Please tag me if you have!
My friend has met Vicky Patterson and said that she came across as very insecure and not very confident at all which surprised me.

BiBiBirdie · 23/04/2019 21:34

I was at a festival a few years back, DD was about 2, and dressed as a fairy, holding a wand in the crowd whilst we watched an act on the stage at about 2 in the afternoon, so it wasn't greatly busy.
A young guy was standing near, he saw DD and knelt down a bit, asking if she was a fairy and could she wave her wand over his head for good luck.
It was the type of Festival where this wasn't unusual, very friendly so I thought nothing of it, other than him having a huge chain round his neck which must have weighed a tonne.
DD did indeed donk him with her wand and he wandered off, saying thank you and telling me she was very cute.
Next thing, act goes off, next act is being announced and hyped. I'd heard of him at the time as his songs were everywhere, Tinie Tempah.
It was the guy in the crowd, that was why he wanted "good luck".
Thoroughly pleasant chap.

Elderflower14 · 23/04/2019 21:36

@popsadaisy. I met Jake while he was on XF. He sang Say Something by A Great Big World at his audition 1 d he came to their one London gig which I was at. He was with Paul who was on XF too. They were both lovely to my friend and I. Chatted to us and posed for photos....

Absofuckinglutely · 23/04/2019 21:40

I worked in a hotel when i left school, i met Paul McCartney and his wife, David Essex

That's really cracked me up for some reason, I've had a rubbish week so far, so thanks for making me laugh!

NotBeforeCoffee · 23/04/2019 21:45

I sat next to Nigel Harman (of Eastenders fame) in a pub once. He really had a heightened sense of self worth. He was talking about finding his first grey pube and how he could sell it on eBay

Simon Webb pulled up in a blue convertible a few years ago and asked me for directions. It was after he drove away that I realised I’d send him the wrong way.

LittleMissHappy19 · 23/04/2019 21:45

@popsadaisy what!!

I have read threads on here in the past, and never read one nice one on Holly..I feel like I have been lied to for years Angry

Tag me, once somebody tags you 😂

Hopefully we will be able to gloss over the badness by tomorrow morning!

Croprotationinthe14thcentury · 23/04/2019 21:56

Sat next to Timmy mallett at a panto as a child in the 80's. I asked him "where's your mallett?" and he pretended he'd lost it!
Served the chandler bing actor in the height of friends fame and everyone stopped in the busy shop, could've heard a pin drop. Was very awkward and he seemed self conscious and awkward. Felt incredibly sorry for him tbh.
David Starkey is incredible......a real character and very witty .
Paul Gascoigne - very nice and generous but also v. drunk.
Mark from take that very sweet.

NatNoo · 23/04/2019 22:10

Stephen Fry - Family friend - kind and humble
Jude Law - Lovely
Sadie Frost - Rude
Jools Holland - Very funny
Kylie - Friend worked for her - not a nice person
Colin Firth - sat next to him on a flight - lovely guy
Harry Rednapp / Jamie Rednapp (former business contact) - both really genuine guys
Frank Lampard - lots of fun
Matt Lucas - just fabulous

HelenaDove · 23/04/2019 22:14

Vanessa Feltz Nicky Campbell and Paul Ross as i participated in some chat shows in the late 90s that were hosted by them. Nina Myskow................she was lovely.

Would have loved the chance to meet Dave Allen (comedian) and Edward Woodward. Sadly no chance as they are both sadly no longer with us.

Zacsmum25 · 23/04/2019 22:14

Simon Bates at the height of his career- very smooth and full of himself, very SmashyandNicey
Ted Heath, arrogant, insisted on being addressed as Lord
Biggins, just lovely, appreciative and polite
Ronnie Corbett, very nice
Susannah Yorke, wonderful, and very chuffed to be recognised so many years after her heyday
Andy Cole, nice guy
Eddie Izzard when he was running his marathons every day. Very friendly and signed autographs for everyone.
Jason Connery, just a normal guy
Clarissa Dickson Wright. Not very clean and quite rude
Rory Bremner, bit manic, very self effacing and pleasant
Steve Backshall- just all round amazing. Met him several times and he is so enthusiastic, passionate about his topic, and loves encouraging kids to take an interest in wildlife, will answer all their questions, something different to say to every kid. Even recognised my son after a show when he’d asked a question when we queued for a book signing. Remembered his name, question everything. A true gent

DH met Nicola Sturgeon on a London to Edinburgh flight not long ago and she was nothing but charming. He was in business class and all the other Business passengers were her and her entourage. The cabin crew insisted on giving her champagne as the First Minister, but she was going on to another meeting and kept declining. DH went to the loo, and returned to find her leaning over his seat and giving him the champagne that had been forced on her. Told him she was giving to him for him having to put up with her and her team. He said her staff appeared to really like her, and that she was funny.
Martin Kemp back when he first had a brain tumour. Very modest man, and extremely polite even when it became obvious that my colleagues and I were all beetroot red and couldn’t speak for excitement!

Ooh, just remembered! As a teen, I used to see the lady from ‘Pippin’ and indeed, the dog Pippin! She used to live opposite my church, we would often see her dog walking and she was always happy to stop and let us pet the dog :)

Gbtch · 23/04/2019 22:25

None.
They are just people doing a job that brings them into the public eye.
Leave em be.

Sweetpea55 · 23/04/2019 22:26

Miriam margoyles once asked me for help with her family tree.
My DH used to be drinking pals with Jimmy Nail.
Met Robson Green at a football match.. quite grumpy.. Maybe because his team lodt

Lamaitresse · 23/04/2019 22:28

I met Peter Andre either just before or just after the millenium. He was lovely, but a bit of a sleaze... He did end up giving me a signed photo of himself saying that I was ‘truly gorgeous’ so I wasn’t too unhappy with the encounter 😆

catofaragon · 23/04/2019 22:29

@AlexaAmbidextra My DH also met Bill Clinton, after he was US president. He came into a pub where my DH was having a drink with a friend and even though he was there for only about 10 mins he spoke to everyone and when he left remembered peoples names. My DH says he was the most charismatic person he's ever met. Warm and charming.

Lamaitresse · 23/04/2019 22:31

Oh, and I also sat next to Jamie Redknapp in our local Chinese takeaway whilst waiting for an order. I didn’t speak to him and was so flustered by his gorgeousness that I almost knocked the fish tank over when I stood up to go 😂
