To not want to spend the evening watching balls fly into my garden

Our lovely lounge looks out into our garden. The kids next door are spending the evening out in the garden playing football. In the last 60 seconds 5 footballs have flown past our window into our back garden.

Btw I know we haven’t got bad neighbours, so won’t say anything, but aibu to not want to watch footballs flying over our fence all evening. (I am going to be slightly passive aggressive and not return them until tomorrow morning though!)

They can’t have many more footballs surely!

wigglypiggly · 20/04/2019 19:53

no, don't return them, five balls in one minute is ridiculous. are they adults or children playing.

Fedupofballs · 20/04/2019 19:56

My daughter’s just counted 9, including 1 on the trampoline and 1 which appeared to come from the other side as it bounced off the fence.... There’s still kicking going on, so there must be more!

Welcome to warmer weather! Smile It’s annoying when neighbours all have a different idea of what constitutes a lovely warm afternoon. But seriously, how do they have 5 footballs? Confused

HexagonalBattenburg · 20/04/2019 20:03

The neighbours out the back who were buggers for this have moved out thankfully. Nowt against back garden football but the kids' aim was seriously seriously shit and if you're going to do back garden football really badly (more bending it like Bognor Regis than Beckham) - don't use a full weight leather football because that led to some distinctly hairy moments!

ILoveMaxiBondi · 20/04/2019 20:07

5 in 60 Seconds is deliberate. There’s no way that was accidental.

Fedupofballs · 20/04/2019 20:08

Not deliberate, just bad aim...! The gardens aren’t big enough for football!

Close your curtains
Chuck em back over tomorrow

chocatoo · 20/04/2019 20:13

Don't give them back until they come and ask for them. If they knock and ask and it's not convenient, ask them to pop back in 10 minutes, etc.

InspectorClouseauMNdivision · 20/04/2019 20:13

Rub a bit of chilli on them🤭
Or just ignore if they are otherwise good.

m0therofdragons · 20/04/2019 20:14

I'd politely let the parent know. If I discovered dc had managed to get 9 balls in a neighbour's garden I'd be so apologetic!

Fedupofballs · 20/04/2019 20:21

He does ask politely for them back or my son throws them over. If he comes tonight I’m going to say he can get them in the morning. It seems to have stopped now, I think he’s run out of balls.... Not worth causing a neighbourhood dispute over, just thought I’d have a little Mumsnet rant!

I remember being in the group of kids playing football and the balls would go into gardens. One neighbour would always rub out with a nice and stab the balls. It was horrible (but we knew balls shouldn't end up in gardens so fair enough).

But it means I have never complained when kids used to kick them into the garden at my old house. It's just karma for me!

Sorry for the double post!

Millie2018 · 20/04/2019 20:47

My DD lobbed a ball over the fence and I had to ‘pop’ my head over and ask for it to be thrown back. They were sitting with feet in paddling pool, drinking alcohol and smoking. Were not best pleased at being disturbed. I threw the ball in the house and told DD no more today to avoid it going over again. 9 balls? YANBU.

TeeJay1970 · 20/04/2019 21:12

Rub chilli on them!

Jesus H god basting Christ

Why not just rub them in dog shit too? Hey if you're that mean maybe punch the kids too -you know you want to.

InspectorClouseauMNdivision · 20/04/2019 21:30

That was supposed to be lighthearted thing! I thought that would be obvious 😂
I don't even put chili down to fend of pooping cats even though it's recommended😂

Waveysnail · 20/04/2019 21:34

My sons do this. When they run out of balls (3 light weight beach ball types) then tough. They are not allowed to ask for them back and have to wait until neighbour throws them back. It has learned them to be more careful.

chippingalong · 20/04/2019 21:48

Hey come on, they're just playing with footballs in the garden. It's a lovely Spring day. Cheer up!

Stefoscope · 20/04/2019 23:00

YANBU. My neighbours have always been bad for kicking footballs and other assorted toys and clothes over into my garden, until now I've just thrown them back over when I notice them. Occassionally the kid will knock and demand them back, never heard a please or a thankyou. However, this year they've put up a basketball hoop and I'm sick of balls crashing at my windows/conservatory roof.

After getting hit in the face by one bouncing off my conservatory roof a couple of weeks back I decided to wait for the kid to come and ask for his ball back, so I could have a polite word about trying not to hit my windows. He finally turned up a couple of days ago, by which time the ball is no longer there (I assume another kid has spotted it from the street and taken it). The mother came and gave me an earful for being petty for not returning her kid's ball, which obviously I would have done if he bothered to come and ask for it. I suspect I'm in for a long summer!

Rottencooking · 20/04/2019 23:04

@InspectorClouseauMNdivision it was obvious that poster is just clearly missing a sense of humour. Smile

malpa · 21/04/2019 00:53

"Not deliberate, just bad aim...!"

9 balls over your fence in one evening? There can only be one explanation...

Good luck over the summer... Grin
